UNITED STATES P TE T OFFICE.
JAMES \V. WILLIAMS, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
HAND-RUBBER.
EPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,554, dated September 21, 1886.
Application filed February 8, 1886. Serial No. 191,225. lModel.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. WILLIAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, h'ave'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Rubbers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved handrubber to be used in connection with an ordinary wash-board; and it has for its objects to conveniently hold the soap necessary for use in rubbing over the fabrics and supply it in required quantities, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a side view, and Fig. 2 avertical cross-section, of my invention.
The invention consists, more particularly, in a small wire basket to be retained upon the hand, so as to be conveniently rubbed over the clothes thereby, and of such size as to hold a cake of soap of sufficient dimensions to accomplish an ordinary washing for a small family. This basket is surmounted by a hand-band, which may either be used as a half-glove for covering the hand, or may be grasped by the handy when convenient or necessary.
The basket as here represented consists of a rectangular frame, A, of wire braced bya lateral wire, B, and having ribs 0 C, also made of wire, sufficiently depressed below the frame to contain a small cake of soap.
around the ribs, or secured in any other suitable or convenient manner.
The cake of soap after being placed in the basket wears away by use as the basket is rubbed over the clothing being washed.
I find in practice that the construction herein shown is an improvement over that of my Patent No. 329,350. It is lighter, cheaper, has a better rubbingsurlaee, and gives off the soap more freely to the clothes, and the amount given off can be regulated better by the pressure on the frame and pocket;
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to. secure by Letters Patent, is
Asoap-holding pocket forhand-rnbbers,consisting ofa series of wire ribs separated asuitable distance from each other, bent upward and braced at their ends, and connected to a frame, to which is secured a flexible pocket, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. p
