INVENTOR DAV/0 How/:RD Anon' Yi/MW MIM United States Patent O 3,491,775 APPARATUS FR CLEANING ARTIFICIAL EYELASHES David Howard Aylott, Welwyn Garden City, England,
assignor to Eylure Limited, Hertfordshire, England,
a British company Filed Apr. 13, 1966, Ser. No. 542,401 Int. Cl. A45d 44/18 U.S. Cl. 132-85 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A box for the storage and cleaning of artificial eyelashes wherein two separate arcuate supports are mounted, having transverse serrations thereon, adapted to accommodate artificial eyelashes and having two separate retainer members, one for each support, for holding the eyelashes in place while they are being cleaned or stored.
In my patent application No. 524,127, I have described an artificial eyelash cleaning kit especially adapted and designed for the purpose of cleaning and reshaping false eyelashes. As a modification of the cleaning kit described in my co-pending application I now provide a box with two upstanding unstanding curved supports arrange side by side upon which eyelash sets may be disposed.
When the box is offered for sale two new eyelash sets may be disposed in the box with the curled lashes extending away from the curved supports. After the lashes have been worn and when they required cleaning the sets may be placed back into the box but this time with the curled lashes in position to extend over the supports so that the eyelash sets are in position to be cleaned and brushed.
The top of the curved support is serrated to facilitate correct repositioning of the lashes and there may be a recess within the curve of each support e.g., between the support and the side wall of the box.
According to the present invention I provide cleaning apparatus for artificial eyelashes comprising a box having a lid and bottom part, two arcuate upstanding supports in the bottom part of the box, radial serrations in the arcuate supports and a removable retainer associated with each arcuate support to hold an eyelash set in position on the support.
If desired a brush and possibly a tube of cleaning uid may be disposed within the box.
The upstanding supports may be formed integrally with the bottom of the box or may be formed in a platform that is inserted into the bottom of the box.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect reference is now direct to the accompanying drawings given by way of example in which:
FIGURE l is a plan view with two new eyelash sets in display position extending away from the supports FIGURE 2 is a plan view with two used eyelash sets in position on the supports for cleaning FIGURE 3 is a section on the line III-III of FIG- URE 2 FIGURE 4 is a section on the line IV-IV of FIG- URE 2 FIGURE 5 is a side elevation FIGURE 6 is a plan view of a modificaiton FIGURE 7 is a section on the line VII-VII of FIG- URE 6 but with the lid of the box shut, and
3,491,775 Patented Jan. 27, 1970 FIGURE 8 is a section on the line VII-VII of FIG- URE 6 with the lid of the box open.
Referring particularly to FIGURES 1 to 5 the cleaning kit comprises a box 1 having a lid 2 and a bottom part 3. The bottom part 3 of the box is shaped to provide two upstanding arcuate supports 4 which are radially serrated as at 5. A removable retainer 6 with a handle or grip 7 is provided for use in association with each arcuate support 4. In FIGURE 1 two sets 8 of` new artificial eyelashes are illustrated in their display position in the box with the eyelashes extending outwardly or away from the supports. In FIGURE 2 the eyelash sets are illustrated in their cleaning positon after use with the sets seated on the supports and the lashes extending inwardly under the retainer 6. When in the cleaning position the retainers 6 hold the eyelash sets in position while they are cleaned. In order to change the lashes 8 from the cleaning position to the display position the retainers 6 are lifted by means of the grips 7, the lash sets are then moved and the retainers are replaced.
As illustrated the lid 2 is hinged at 9 to the bottom part 3 of the box 1. In FIGURES 1 to 5 it will be observed that the two arcuate supports are symmetrically arranged within the box 1.
Referring now to FIGURES 6, 7, and 8 it will be noted that the bottom part 3 of the Ibox 1 has an inserted platform 10 shaped to fit within the bottom part 3 of the box. The platform 10 is recessed at 11 and is raised at 12 to provide the two arcuate supports 4. The platform is also recessed at 13 and retainers 6 are provided to hold the lash sets in position on the supports 4.
In FIGURE 7 the lid 2 of the box is shown in the closed position and in FIGURE 8 the lid is open. In each case the retainers 6 are shown in position. In this ernbodiment the arcuate supports are assymmetrically arranged within the box to provide a space 13 within which a brush indicated generally at 14 and a tube of cleaning fluid indicated generally at 15 may be disposed.
One advantage is that when the eyelashes are in the cleaning position they are not only held in curl but also in the shape complementary to the natural curvature of the eyelids. This curvature of the eyelashes greatly helps the fixing of the eyelashes in position.
After wearing two sets of artificial eyelashes for some time, one set on each eye, the lashes become dirty and may be encrusted with cosmetic material. Further than that the curl of the individual eyelashes may become distorted. At this stage the sets of lashes may be removed and may be placed upon the supports 4 in a cleaning kit as described and illustrated herein for example as illustrated in FIGURE 2. The lashes may then be brushed and cleaned so that the individual lashes are brushed into the serrations 5. The lashes are then left in this position until the curl has reset after which they may be left on the supports or may be reused at once or may be removed and placed inthe display position.
What 'I claim is:
1. Cleaning apparatus for artificial eyelashes comprising a box having sidewalls, a lid and a bottom component which is disposed facing the lid when the lid is closed, two arcuate supports extending upwardly from said bottom component, said arcuate supports being arranged side-by-side adjacent the same rectilinear sidewall of said box and having transverse serrations thereon adapting them to accommodate artificial eyelashes draped over the supports, the concave side of each of said arcuate supports being spaced from and facing a sidewall of said 3,491,775 3 4 box, and a separate removable retainer member for each References Cited of said arcuate supports, said retainer members each UNITED STATES PATENTS having one convex margin adapted to closely t the concave side of its respective arcuate support and the Inar- 3037616 6/1962 Phipps.-
