Description

(-No Model.)
I A. G. PHILIPPI.
ATTAGHMENT POB- COOKING STOVES. No. 349,118. Patented Sept. 14, 1886.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADILE C. PHILIPII, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
ATTACHMENT FOR COOKlN'G-STOVES.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,118, dated September 14-, 1886.
Application filed February 8, 1886. Serial No. 191,181. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADILE CLAIRE PHILIPPI, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachments for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of acooking-stove to which my attachment has been applied. Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre-.
sponding parts in both figures of the drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple andeasily-applied attachment for supporting pots, kettle=, and other cooking utensils at the edge of the stove-top and partly in contact therewith, for utilizing,in the operation of cooking, the heat which would otherwise be lost.
My invention consists in a frame fitted to the stove top'and extending beyond the" sides and ends of the stove in position to form, in conjunction with the stove-top, a support for cooking-vessels. Two bars, AB, of iron or other suitable material, extend across the top of the stove, and are oifset to receive crossbars 0, which are secured to the bars A B by means of rivets or otherwise, the upper surface of the bars 0 being level with the top of the stove when the attachment is in position for use. The ends of the bars A B are returned upon themselves to form clips (I, for engaging the edges of the stove-top and holding the attachment in place on the stove.
The form of the attachment will be varied to adapt it to different kinds of stoves. The bars A B will be made straight or curved, to allow them to extend over the top of the stove without interfering with the ordinary use of the stove.
When it is desired to maintain the heat in articles cooked on the stove, the utensils in which they are cookedare removed from the hotter parts of the stove-top, and are placed partly upon the bars 0 and partly upon the edges of the stove-top.
The frame formed of the bars A B and the end pieces, 0, instead of being made of separate pieces of wrought-iron riveted together, may be formed integrally in a single casting; and instead of returning the ends of the bars A B upon themselves to form the clipsd,I may secure the bars to the stove-top by means of rivets o1- bolts, and for some kinds of stoves the end pieces, 0, may be connected by bars extending under the stove-top, the ends of the bars being bent upward to support the cross-pieces O in position for use. I
For convenience in handling the utensils used in cooking, the bars A B may be prolonged beyond the cross-bars O, to receive other crossbars, which will support the utensils in an accessible position.
My improved attachment economizes fuel, as well as reduces theoutlay in purchasing a stove, as a smaller-sized cooking-stove provided with the attachment will answer the purposes of a larger one, the heating-surface being materially increased.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An attachment for the top of a cookingstove, consisting of bars A B, having oifsets in their ends, and the cross-bars O, secured on the said offset ends of the bars A B, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the longitudinal bars A B, offset at their ends and returned upon themselves to form the clips (I, and two or more bars, 0, secured to the ends of the bars AB, substantially as herein shown and described.
