COMBINED WAGON-SEAT AND FEED-TROUGH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,974, dated September 14, 1886.
Application filed November 25, 1885.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LENSON JOHNSON, of Vincennes, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Wagon-Seat and Feeding-Trough, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figurel isaplan view showing my improved wagon-seat arranged as a feeding-trough. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line '00 w in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section showing the device arranged as a wagon-seat.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment to a wagon-seat, by means of which it may be readily converted into a feedingtrough for feeding animals.
My invention consists in the combination, with a wagonseat having imperforate back and ends, of a board adapted to fit in between the ends, at or near the front edge of the seat,

bottom of the seat, a trough for containing food for animals and for other uses. The seat A is of the ordinary well-known construction, having the bottom B, back 0, and ends D, of the usual form. Aboard, E, of substantially the same form as the back of the seat, is fitted between the ends of the seat, and arranged to be held parallel with the back of the seat by Serial No. 193,943. (No model.)
cleats (I, attached to the inner surface of the ends of the seat, and near the front of the seat, upon the inner surface of the ends of the seat, are arranged pairs of cleats I), having between them a groove, 0, for receiving the board E, when it is desired to convert the seat into a feeding-trough. Instead of securing the board E in this manner, it may be hinged to the bottom near the front edge of the seat, and ar ranged to fold parallel with the bottom when not in use. The upper edges of the back and ends of the seat and of the board E are provided with a metal band, (I, for protecting the seat against injury by the animals feeding from the trough.
My improvement is especially useful to teamsters for noon feeding of their horses, to farm- U ers for feeding their horses while in town, and
it may also be used for containing certain parts of the load carried by the wagon to which the seat belongs.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to soon re by Letters Patent, is-
lhe combination, with the seat A, provided with the cleats a I), of the board E, adapted to be held by the cleats, substantially as herein specified.
