O. J. MITCHELL.
WALL PAPER BXHIBITING DEVICE. No. 348,764. Patented Sept. 7, 1886.
PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. MITCHELL, OF ST. CLAIR, MICHIGAN.
WALL PAPER-EXHIBITING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,764, dated September 7,1886.
(No model.)
To all whom/ it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. llJIITOIIELL, of St. Clair, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in \Vall-Iaper-Exhibiting Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to that class of devices for displaying wall-paper in which two independent sets of rollers are used, by means of which wall-paper and border for the same may be displayed at the same time.
I am aware of the Patents Nos. 205,149 and 232,064, and make no claim to the construction shown therein, it being the object of this invention to improve upon the construction shown in said patents, and provide a simple, light, cheap, yet durable device that can be easily moved about as desired.
To these ends the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a suitable light frame-work braced on opposite sides by the rails A,in which the shaftsB and C are properly journaled in pairs, each pair being connected together by an apron, D E, respectively. The shafts are provided with crank-wheel F, or other analogous appliances, by means of which they may be turned so as to roll the curtain upon either one of the shafts desired. At the front of the frame-work are c 'ournaled suitable "uiderolls or bars act bb 4 J a a v over which the aprons pass, so as to present a flat surface on the same plane in front. The
samples of body-paper in stock are pasted upon the apron E,while samples of the border are likewise secured upon the apron D.
In practice, the salesman rolls the apron upon one of the shafts C, displaying the various styles of paper to the purchaser until a selection is made for the body or wall paper. The next selection to be made is generally the border. The salesman now turns one of the shafts B, so as to present the various styles of border until the purchaser has made selection. It will be observed that the wall-paper and border are presented upon the same front plane, and that the two inner guide-rolls are in close proximity to each other, so that the purchaser can at a glance see the contrast and aesthetic effect produced as the various borders are presented.
If desired, the two sets of shafts may be provided with a belt, in which case but one shaft of each set will require a crank-wheel.
It will be seen that by my construction I provide a device which is comparatively light, easily made, and one by means of which wallpaper and its border may be exhibited to gether, but on separate independent aprons, without the employment of gearing, as generally used in devices of this kind.
I am also aware of the Patents Nos.2l2,899 and 263,378, and make no claim to the constructions sh own therein as forming part of my invention.
Vhat I claim as my invention is The improved wall-papcr-exhibiting device herein described, consisting of the skeleton frame A, rails A, bracing the same and forming bearing for the shafts B C, said shafts B C, the four guide rolls a a. b I), all arranged in line in the front of the frame and the rolls a b in close proximity, thclong apron F,passing over said shafts C and guide-rolls b I), the short apron D, passing around the shafts B and over rolls a a, and the crank-wheels E, secured to said shafts, all combined for joint operation as and for the purposes specified.
7 CHARLES J. MITCHELL.
