Ndv. 1 1, 0. H. HO OVER BABY WRAPPING BLANKET AND HOOD" fi ed April 22, 1968 INVEZJTOR DOROTHY H HOOVER BY FIG. 3 f
United States Patent US. Cl. 2--69.5 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A baby wrap formed of a square of suitable material having a hood portion applied diagonally to one corner thereof and snap fasteners on the diagonally opposite corner for engagement with snap fasteners adjacent either side of said hood portion so that a baby positioned diagonally on the wrap with its head under the hood portion can 'be enclosed by the opposite diagonal portion of the wrap and the sides of the hood pulled around the sides of the babys head by the fasteners. The opposite pair of corners are provided with secondary fasteners and are foldable inwardly to complete the wrap around the baby.
The field of the invention comprises wrapping blankets and similar devices for infants. Primarily wrapping blankets as heretofore known in the art have been used for the purpose along with separate hoods for enclosing the babys head. The present invention combines the two functions in a single usable device.
The prior art devices have utilized wrapping members formed in various shapes and sizes and several have attempted to attach a hood at one longitudinal side of a wrapping blanket. Such devices carry over the inefficiency of the separate hood and the bulkiness of the conventional wrapping blanket.
The present invention comprises a section of square material such as blanket material or quilted material with slightly rounded corners and the diagonal length of which is approximately twice the length of an infant to be enclosed therein. One of the corners of the square material is provided with a diagonally positioned pocket like corner section arranged so that when the edges of the square section of material adjacent the ends of the pocket like section are pulled upwardly and toward one another, the pocket like section forms a hood. The diagonally opposite corner of the square of material and with respect to the corner carrying the hood section is in turned and provided with snap fasteners, the mating portions of which are at either side of the hood portion so that when the opposite corner is turned upwardly and snap fasteners are attached, the hood configuration is maintained.
The other corners of the square of material are provided with secondary fasteners which enable these to be folded in over the infant and secured.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the baby wrapping blanket and hood in its final folded form.
FIGURE 2 is a plan view of the baby wrapping blanket and hood in open form.
FIGURE 3 is a plan view showing the baby wrapping blanket and hood partly folded and enclosed with the side sections still open.
c a 3,477,065 g PatentedNov. 11,1969
seen that the baby wrapping blanket and hood comprises a square section-of material 10 having four corners, three of which are slightly rounded as at 11, 12 and 14. The
fourth corner, that lying diagonally opposite the corner 11, is in turned as at 13 and provided with a plurality of fasteners 15. The corner 11 has a triangular section of material 16 secured along its edges by the seams 17 which bind the four sides of the square section of material which forms the babys wrapping blanket and hood and the third side of the. triangular section of material 16 is bound as at 18 and forms a pocket above the surface of the section of material 10. An ornamental bow 19 is preferably affixed to this triangular section of material 16 along with a decorative edging such as lace 20.
The section of material 10 is provided with secondary fasteners 21 thereon adjacent the opposite ends of the bound edge 18 of the triangular section of material 16 and the secondary fasteners 21 register with the fasteners 15 heretofore referred to as being located on the diagonally opposite corner of the square section of material 10 which forms the body of the babys wrapping blanket and hood.
By referring now to FIGURE 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that the diagonally opposite end 13 of the section of material 10' has been folded upwardly over the upper half of the section 10 (as seen in FIGURE 2 of the drawings) and the fasteners 15 thereon engaged on the fasteners 21. It will be seen that in order to do so, the side sections of the section of material 10 adjacent the ends of the bound edge 11 of the section of material 16 have been pulled upwardly and inwardly and it will further be seen that this action forms a head enclosing hood which may also be seen in perspective in FIGURE 1 of the drawings.
By referring again to FIGURE 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that the other pair of corners 12 and 14 of the square section of matreial 10 have been folded inwardly and additional fasteners 22 thereon secured to fasteners 23 which are spaced inwardly from the end-13 of the section of square material 10, thus the section of square material forms an enclosing wrap around an infant' thus, not only fulfills its primary function but becomes a convenient carry all for the baby and its necessary supplies.
The snap fasteners referred to herein and carrying the reference numerals 15, 21, 22 and 23 respectively are preferably the type illustrated in the enlarged cross section comprising FIGURE 4 of the drawings and which are snap fasteners positioned through the material and clamped in position, as will be understood by those skilled in the art.
It will be appreciated that the baby wrapping blanket and hood can be formed of many various materials and thet the seamed edge 17 can and preferably does include an ornamental binding. It will also be obvious that when the device is in its open form, as in FIGURE 2 of the drawings, it is easy to launder and that it will dry readily and quickly. It will further be appreciated that the baby wrapping blanket and hood is so formed that it is readily adjustable to the size of the infant positioned therein as for example, the pairs of fasteners 15 provide an alternate head size with respect to the hood portion formed by the triangular section of material 16.
It will thus be seen that the baby wrapping blanket and hood disclosed herein takes the form of a novel and highly elficient device which is particularly suitable for its purpose and having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. A baby wrapping blanket and hood comprising a square section of suitable fabric material having a triangular section of material positioned on one of the corners thereof and secured thereto along the edges thereof with the free edge of the triangular section of material extending diagonally across said corner of said square section, said free edge being of predetermined length and first separable fastening means in said square section adjacent the ends of said free edge, the corner of the square section opposite the corner having the triangular section of material secured thereto being inturned to form a folded edge extending thereacross, the length of said folded edge 'being substantially less than the length of said free edge, second separable fastening means secured to said square section adjacent the ends of Said folded edge, third separable fastening means on the remaining diagonal opposed corners of said ssquare section, fourth separable fastening means adjacent said folded edge but upwardly spaced therefrom, whereby said first and second separable fastening means cooperate upon folding said square section diagonally along a line extending between said remaining corners to fasten said blanket in said folded positions and constrict said triangular sections to form said hood and whereby said third and fourth separable fastening means cooperate upon subsequent inward folding of said diagonally opposed corners to fasten said corners to said blanket.
