A BACKMANN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BABY-ENVELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 29, 1921.
Application filed March 20, 1920. Serial No. 367,528.
1 n, county of Kings, and State of New ork, have invented a new and Improved Baby-E'nvelop, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to infant wrappings, and has for an object the provision of a wrapping which may be placed around an infant when carrying it from place to place.
Another object of this invention is to rovide a wrapping of the class indicated w ich will keep the infant warm in the coldest of weather. Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which it is understood that the drawing illustrates only one form of the invention, and in which' Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved wrapping about to be p aced around the infant.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the wrapping in a folded position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the outside of the wrapping in an open position.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the method of securing the various flaps in place.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective view showmg the lower tying strings for main--.
taining the flaps in place.
Referrin to the accompanying drawing by numera s, 10 indicates'the back of the wrapper upon which the infant is laid as shown in Fig. 1. A side flap 11 is formed on each edge of the back 10, said flap being of such size as to meet in the center and be secured together by means of upper tying strings 12 and lower tying strings 13. head flap 14 is formed on the upper end of the back 10 and a front 15 is formed on the lower end'of said back. A front flap 16 is formed on each side of the front 15 and said front is adapted to be folded upwardly over a the infant under the flaps 11 w ile the front flaps 16 are adapted to be tucked around the side of the infant so as to keep it warm. In order to revent the front 15 from slipping down w on the infant is carried around in the arms, a loop 17 is secured to the outslde upper end of the front 15 and when in a folded position as shown in Figs. 2, t, and 5, the upper tying strings 12 pass through this loop and are tied together, thus effectually preventing the front 15 from slipping from under the flaps 11. This loop 17 is essential to the wrapping since said wrapping is to be used principally while carrying the infant in the arms, although it may also be used as bedding.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an infant wrapping, a back, a side flap formed on each side of said back, a head flap formed on one end of said back, a front formed on the end of said back opposite the head flap, said front being adapted to be folded over the infant, a front fiap formed on each edge of said front ada ted to be tucked around the sides of the in ant,
a plurality of tying stringsassociated with said side flaps adapted to secure said side flaps together over the front, and means for preventing said front from slipping from under said side flaps.
2. In an infant wrapping, a back, a side flap formed on each side of said back, a head flap formed on one end of said back, a front formed on the end of said back opposite the head flap, said front being adapted to be folded over the infant, a front flap formed on each edgeof said front ada ted to be tucked around the sides of the in ant,
a pair of upper tying strings secured to the upper end of the side flaps adapted to be tied together so as to secure the side flaps together over said front, and a loop secured to said front and engaging said strings, said upper tyin strings being adapted to prevent said ront from slipping from under said side flaps.
SELINA 'BACKMZANN.
