Cl. 98-97 26 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A venting element for engagement with profiled glazing panes which comprises outer and inner panel means, each panel means having a plurality of venting apertures and provided with overlapping L-shaped end flanges, said overlapping end flanges defining a channel for engaging the end portions of U-shaped profiled glazing panes and sliding shutter means operatively connected to at least one of said panel means for opening and closing said venting apertures.
The present invention relates to a venting element for profile glazings composed of interengaging profiled panels, and has the primary object of providing a venting element which fits harmonically into glass walls formed by such profiled glazing panes and can be mounted in such a wall at the time of its construction or subsequently without requiring any additional or auxiliary members. It is another object of the invention to provide a venting panel, the area of the venting apertures of which can be readily adjusted, and which can be secured against the entry of flying insects.
With these and other objects in view which will become apparent later from this specification and the accompanying drawings, I provide a venting element for profile glazing composed of interengaging profiled panes, comprising in combination: an outer component and an inner component, each provided with venting apertures, each component having the same external dimensions and shape as said profiled glazing panes, and sliding shutters capable of closing at least the venting apertures of one of said components.
These and other features of my said invention will be clearly understood from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof given by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

on a larger scale than FIGS. 1 and 2.

FIG. 5 is a part-section corresponding to FIG. 3 of a somewhat modified embodiment.
The profile glass wall 1, into which the venting elements according to the invention are incorporated, comprises uniform inter-engaging profile glass panes 2 of U-shaped cross-sectional profile, which are inserted on top and bottom into enclosing frames 3 and 4, respectively, of U-shaped cross-sectional profile.
The venting element 5 according to the invention comprises an outer component 6 and in inner component 7, whose external dimensions and shapes correspond exactly to those of the profile glass panes, so that the components 6 and 7 can be fitted, likewise inter-engaging, together with the adjacent profile glass panes.
The two components 6 and 7, which are made for example of aluminum, steel or synthetic material in individiual compound pieces are in continuous sections, carry on their end flanges 8 at the outside putty holder serrations 9, so that they can be puttied together in the usualy manned with the profile glas panes. The end flanges 8 have moreover the same thickness as the profile glass panes 2 (which thicknes may be different from the wall thickness of the other parts of the components), in order that alternatively a fitting with inserted sealing strips 10 made of plastics (FIG. 5) is made possible.
The outer component has horizontal venting slots 11 arranged one below the others, which are preferably produced by punching-out, the raised portion 12 serving as a weather rail for the adjacent slot. On the inside of the component 6 there are provided two longitudinally extending grooves 13 into which a fly-protection grid 14 may be slid. The flanges 15 serving for the formation of the grooves 13 are arranged on the component 6 in such a manner and are so formed, that they may serve for supporting the end flanges of the adjacent profile glass panes or of the inner component 7, respectively, and thus constitute a compensation for the weaker profile wall of the component 6 (see FIG. 3, right hand side).
The inner component 7 is provided with four longitudinaly extending compensation beads 16, which likewise serve for compensating the profile wall thickness which is thinner than the thickness of the profile glass and which are so arranged, that the end flanges of the adjacent profile glass pane 2 and/ or of the outer component 6 can be supported thereon (see FIG. 3 left hand side).
In the wall of the inner component 7 two rows of vertical venting slots 17 are arranged one above the other, whose total area is substantially equal to the total area of the venting slots 11 in the outer component. The venting slots 17 can be covered at will by two sliding shutters 18. For this purpose, on the inner wall surface of the component 17 there are arranged two flanges 19 extending in the longitudinal direction, which With the inner wall surface or rather with beads 20 projecting therefrom include longitudinal grooves 21 facing one another and serving for the accommodation of transverse bars 22 arranged at pre-determined spacing from each other. These transverse bars are attached somehow in the grooves 21 and serve for guiding the two sliding shutters 18.
The two sliding shutters 18 are articulated at a suitable place to a lever 23, which in its middle is fixedly connected with an axle 24. The axle 24 passes through the wall of the component '7 and carries on the opposite side of that wall a hand Wheel 25. By turning this hand wheel the sliding shutters 18 can be shifted from their middle position laterally over the venting slots 17, so that the passage of air can be more or less closed.
When the axle 24 with the lever 23 is not arranged at a level within easy reach (from the ground), the hand wheel 25 may be replaced by a balance beam, to which a cord pull is attached in a known manner.
The venting element according to the invention has a pleasing external appearance, and fits well into profile glass walls. Since the external dimensions of the two components and correspond to the dimensions of the commercially available profile glass panes, a subsequent fitting of the venting element into a completed profile glazed wall can be effected at any time. The fitting is extremely simple since only two interengaging profile glass panes have to be replaced by the two pre-fitted components 6 and 7.
While I have described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings what may be considered a typical and particularly advantageous embodiment of my said invention, I wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the particular details and dimensions described and illustrated: for obvious modification will occur to a person skilled in the art.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A venting element which comprises spaced-apart outer and inner panel means defining an air space therebetween, each panel means having a plurality of venting apertures and provided with overlapping L-shaped end flanges, the overlapping portions of said end flanges defining a channel therebetween, thereby providing means adapted to engage the end portions of U-shaped profiled glazing panes, and sliding shutter means operatively connected to at least one of said panel means for opening and closing said venting apertures.
2. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the end flanges contain serrated end portions.
3. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the end portions of the end flanges are provided with sealing strips.
4. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the venting apertures of the outer panel means are provided with a weather rail.
5. The venting element of claim 4, wherein a weather rail is provided for each venting aperture and disposed adjacent thereto.
6. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the inside of at least one of the panel means is provided with longitudinally extending grooves which slidably engage a flyprotection grid means.
7. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the inner panel is provided with longitudinally extending compensation beads disposed near the air space at the L-shaped end flanges and extending into the venting element as defiined by the inner and outer panel means, said beads compensating for the thinner wall thickness of the panel means compared to the profiled glazing panes.
8. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the total area of the venting apertures in the outer panel are substantially equal to that of the inner panel.
9. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the shutter means are pivotally connected to lever arms which rotate about a common fulcrum, the rotation of said lever arms causing the shutter means to slide over the venting apertures.
10. The venting element of claim 1, wherein each of said panel means has L-shaped end flanges of the same thickness as those of the profiled glazing panes.
11. The venting element of claim 1, wherein the panel means are made of a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, steel and synthetic resins.
12. A venting element for engagement with glazing panes which comprises spaced-apart outer and inner panel means defining an air space therebetween, each panel means having a plurality of venting apertures and provided with overlapping L-shaped end flanges, the overlapping portions of the end flanges defining a channel therebetween, thereby providing means adapted to engage the end portions of U-shaped profiled glazing panes, grid means disposed in the inside of the outer panel means and sliding shutter means operatively connected to the inside of said inner panel means for opening and closing said venting apertures contained therein.

13. The venting element of claim 12, wherein the outer panel is provided with horizontal venting apertures and the inner panel is provided with two parallel columns of vertical venting apertures.
14. The venting element of claim 12, wherein the outer panel is provided with two longitudinal flanges at its inner face, forming grooves facing one another for the insertion of said grid means.
15. The venting element of claim 14, wherein the longitudinal flanges provide support for the adjacent profiled glazing pane and the L-shaped end flange of the associated inner panel.
16. The venting element of claim 12, wherein the inner panel is provided with four longitudinal compensating beads which support the end flanges of adjacent profiled glazing panes and the associated outer panel.
17. The venting element of claim 13, wherein the sliding shutter means is capable of covering both vertical columns of the venting apertures.
18. The venting element of claim 17, wherein a transverse bar is attached to and spaced from the inside surface of the inner panel means and guides the shutter means between said bar and said inner panel means.
19. A venting element for engagement with glazing panes which comprises spaced-apart outer and inner panel means, the outer panel means being provided with horizontal venting apertures and the inner panel means being provided with two parallel columns of vertical venting apertures, each panel means having overlapping L- shaped end flanges, the overlapping end portions of said flanges defining a channel therebetween, thereby providing means adapted to engage the end portions of U-shaped profiled glazing panes, and sliding shutter means operatively connected to the inside of said inner panel means for covering both vertical columns of the venting apertures contained therein, said shutter means being pivotally connected to a two-armed lever means which rotates about a fulcrum, the rotation of said lever arm means causing the shutter means to move from a central position clearing the venting apertures to an outer position covering the venting apertures.
20. The venting element of claim 19, wherein grid means are disposed on the inside of the outer panel means.
21. The venting element of claim 19, wherein a transverse bar is attached to and spaced from the inside surface of the inner panel means to guide the shutter means between said bar and said inner panel means.
22. The venting element of claim 19, wherein a hand wheel communicates with the fulcrum to rotate the shutter means.
23. A wall construction comprising a venting element for engagement with profiled glazing panes, said venting element having spaced apart outer and inner panel means, each panel means containing a plurality of venting apertures and provided with overlapping L-shaped end flanges, the overlapping portions of said flanges defining a channel therebetween, sliding shutter means operatively connected to at least one of the panel means of said venting element for opening and closing said venting apertures, profile glass panes having overlapping L-shaped end flanges engaging the end portions of the venting element in said channel, and frame means for maintaining the panels and glass panes in the wall construction.
24. The venting element of claim 23, wherein a transverse bar is attached to and spaced from the inside of the inner panel means, and guides the shutter means between said bar and said inner panel means.
25. The venting element of claim 24, wherein the shutter means are pivotally connected to a two-armed lever means which rotates about a fulcrum, the rotation of ter means.
