UNITED STATES EEicEo PATENT ADJUSTABLE HANDLE FOR DUSTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 347,123, dated August 10, 1886.
Application filed July 23, 1885. Serial No. 172,398. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA G. NUNN, of Vassar, in the county of Tuscola and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Handles for Dust- `ers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specication.
This invention relates to certain new and novel improvements in the construction of adjustable handles for dust-brushes; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction of the handle and the means employed for adjusting the brush at different angles to the handle, as may be desired, in brushing V ceilings, side walls, and the tops of high standdle can be made of the proper length by employing one, two, or more of the sections.
To one end of the handle A, I pivotally secure in a slot cut in such end the plate B,
which is provided with the two arms a b at right angles to each other, and with an intermedi ate arm, c, and to this plate B, I rigidly secure the section G of the handle, which is designed to engage with the head of the brush or duster E. A loose ferrule, F, is placed around the handle A, and is designed to slide upon the handle and embrace the arm of the plate C, that is in the slot of the handle, as shown.
In practice, when it is desired to brush the ceiling the handle is adjusted so that the arm ct is Within the slot in the handle when the ferrule or sleeve F is pushed up, so as to prevent the jointed end of the handle from turning. When it is desired to brush the side walls, the arm c is adjusted in line with the.
handle A, and when it is desired to brush the tops of pictures, doors, and cases, or high book-cases or shelving the arm b is adjusted in line with the handle, and thus it will readily be seen that by the use of a handle of this construction the brush or duster can be readily employed for dusting or brushing off the parts of a room and the furniture contained therein without the necessity of standing upon a chair or step-ladder.
What I claim as my invention is- In an adjustable handle, the combination of the handle A and extension C with a plate,B, provided with a series of arms,ct b c, and sleeve F, substantially as and for the purposes specitied.
