Description

(No' Model O. G. SANDBERG.
GRAOKER BOX G'QVBR.
Patented July 13, 1886.
INVENTOR WITNBS" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL G. SANDBERG, OF HELENA, ARKANSAS.
'CRACKER-BOX COVER.
PECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo 345,453, dated July 13, 1886.
. Application filed November 27, 1885. Serial No. 184,133.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL GUSTAF SAND- BERG, of Helena, in the county of Phillips and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cracker-Box Govers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in whicl1 Figure 1 is an inverted plan view of my im proved cracker-box cover. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line as x in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre' sponding parts in the different figures.
The object of my invention is to provide for boxes for containing crackers and other similar articles a cover which may be readily applied to and removed from the box, and which may be adjusted to fit boxes of different sizes.
My invention consists of a frame provided with a glass panel and glass door, with adj ustable angled plates for receiving the top of the box, and in a combined spring buffer and fastener applied to the door for preventing the glass from being broken, and for holding the door in a closed position.
The frame A of the box-cover is provided with a central longitudinal bar, B, and is grooved in its inner edges for receiving the glass A. I one side of the bar B, and to the bar B is hinged a door, 0, which fits into the space between the end bars, a, the central bar, B, and the side bar, I). The door consists'of a rectangular frame grooved around its inner edges for receiving the glass 1). In the inner edge of the bar I) is inserted a wire staple, c, and to the inner surface of'the door is secured a flat'spring, d, which is bent around the edge of the door and made convex, so that when the door is closed the springd will be brought into engagement with the staple c. The spring (1 serves the double purpose of a buffer for preventing thedoor from being closed with sufficient force to break the glass, and of a fastener for preventing the door from being readily openedl The door 0 is provided The end pieces, a, are cut away at (No model.)
with a screw-eye, by which it may be readily opened.
To the under side of the frame A, along one edge thereof, is secured an angled plate, 6, and to the ends of the frame A,- upon the under side thereof, are secured angled plates f, in which are formed slots 9, for receiving the clamping-screws It. By loosening the clamping-screws the angled platesf may be moved in and out to adapt the distance between them to the length of the box to which the cover is applied.
The ends of the frame A are provided with hooks i, for engaging nails or eyes projecting from the ends of the box, for retaining thecover in place on the box to which it is applied.
My improved crackerbox covet-permits of displaying the contents of the box, while excluding dust and moisture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A cracker-box cover formed of a frame, A, containing a glass panel, A, the door C, hinged to the central cross-bar. of the frame A, the angled plate e, and the adjustable angled plates f, substantially as herein de- O. G. SANDBERG.
