Description

A. ZERVER June 24, 1969 roor. CARRIAGE PARTICULARLY FOR REPAIR saors OR THE LIKE Filed Sept. 5, 1967 INVENTOR 1mm, Zrvpr B M+ Q M United States Patent 01'' 3,451,737 Patented June 24, 1969 Int. Cl. A47b 53/00, 77/04 US. Cl. 312-201 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tool carriage, particularly for repair shops or the like, which comprises a rollable ground box, a liftable cover mounted on the tool carriage. At least one column supports the cover, and at least one intermediate bottom is disposed between the ground box and the cover. Means are provided which permit removal of the column from the ground box.
The present invention relates to a tool carriage or mounting carriage, which is to be used particularly in repair shops or the like.
It is known to equip such tool carriages with a rollable ground box and with one or a plurality of columns, on which a liftable cover and one or a plurality of intermediate bottoms are guided. In this arrangement the columns have been previously rigidly connected with the ground box. If, however, such tool carriage has to be taken for repairs outside by means of a vehicle, such columns disturb in many ways during the transportation.
In order to simplify the lifting of the cover and the intermediate bottoms, it is required that the bores in the guide sleeves of the cover and the intermediate bottoms are held larger than the outer diameter of the column or columns. In order to clamp in such embodiment the cover in the open position, particular clamping screws have been provided, which must be adjusted by the user of the carriage. This necessity is oftentimes overlooked, so that in the mounted position the carriage has no suflicient rigidity.
In order to render possible a better transportation of the tool carriage, it is one object of the present invention to provide a tool carriage particularly for repair shops or the like, wherein the column or columns are removable from the ground box. In order to make superfluous the operation of clamping screws or the like during opening or demounting of the tool carriage, in accordance with a further feature of the present invention, the upper end of the removable columns and the bore of a cover flange of the cover sliding on the prevailing column is conically formed. By this arrangement it is brought about, that on the adjustment path of the cover the outer diameter of the columns can be kept smaller, than the inner diameter of the corresponding flange, so that an easy adjustment results. On the other hand, one obtains in the end position of the covers a play-free mounting between the conical end of the columns and the conical bore of the cover flange.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a tool carriage, particularly for repair shops and the like, wherein in order to make the column or columns removable from the ground box of the tool carriage, each column is at its end projecting into the ground box equipped with a clamping member which is adjustable from the upper end of the columns. Such clamping members can easily be operated, so that the columns can be removed from the ground box in a simple manner, as well as inserted and clamped.
It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a tool carriage, particularly for repair shops or the like, wherein a threaded rod isguided through .the hollow column for a clamping member equipped with an oblique face and at the lower end of the column a tubular intermediate member likewise equipped with an oblique face is provided, which intermediate member projects into a guide sleeve, which is secured to the ground box. Such embodiment results in a very simple and easy to be operated clamping device for the removable columns.
With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevation of the tool carriage designed in accordance with the present invention in its collapsed position.
FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the tool carriage shown in FIG. 1, however, in opened position;
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section through a column designed in accordance with the present invention, whereby the median part has been omitted for the purpose of a clearer showing; and
FIG, 4 is a longitudinal section of the clamping device.
Referring now to the drawing, the tool carriage comprises in known manner a ground box 1 which is equipped with Wheels 2, an intermediate bottom 3 and a cover 4. The cover 4 and the intermediate bottom 3 are guided on columns 5 and 6 and are connected together by means of chains 24. The cover 4 can be lifted to table height until the intermediate bottom 3 assumes about the center position between the ground box 1 and the cover 4. It is also possible to provide a plurality of such intermediate bottoms 3. In order to mount the cover 4 in the lifted position on the columns 5 and 6 Without play, the upper end 7 of the two columns 5 and 6 are conically formed. Likewise the bore 8 of a cover flange 9 connected with the cover 4 is conically designed, so that upon lifting of the cover 4 the two conical parts engage solidly.
In order to maintain the cover 4 in the lifted position, for instance, a locking pin 11 biased by means of a spring 10 i provided on each column, which locking pin 11 can be withdrawn upon lowering of the cover 4 by means of a disc 12 against the pressure of the spring 10.
In order to remove, if necessary, the columns 5 and 6 on which the cover 4 and the intermediate bottom 3 are guided, a clamping member 13 is provided in the lower part of the columns 5 and 6. This clamping member 13 ha an oblique face 14, while a tubular intermediate member 15, which is rigidly connected With the columns 5 and 6, has a corresponding oblique face 16. The clamping member 13 is equipped with a threaded bore in which the threaded part 17 of a threaded rod 18 is screwed in. At the upper end 7 of the tubular columns 5 and 6, respectively, this threaded rod 18 is equipped with a service head 19, which supports itself on a disc 20 provided at the upper end 7 of the columns 5 and 6.
As indicated in FIG, 3, the column 5 is mounted on a guide sleeve 21 which, in turn, is rigidly connected with the ground box 1. As indicated in FIG. 4 one part of the intermediate member 15 projects thereby into disc guide sleeve 21. By rotation of the threaded rod 18 by means of the head member 19 the clamping member 13 is pulled with its oblique face 14 against the oblique face 16, so that the clamping member is laterally displaced and thereby the column 5 is rigidly clamped in the guide sleeve 21.
In order that the columns 5 and 6, respectively, assume always during insertion of the guide sleeve 21 the same position, and in particular in view of the locking device for the cover 4, the lower end face of the columns 5 and 6 and the upper end face of the guide sleeve 21 can be equipped with a step-like extension 22. In order to avoid that the threaded rod 18 is completely screwed out from the clamping member 13, a splint 23 is provided at the lower end of the threaded part 17 of the threaded rod 18.
I claim: 1. A tool carriage, particularly for repair shops or the like, comprising a rollable ground box, a liftable cover mounted on said tool carriage, at least two columns supporting said cover, at least one intermediate bottom disposed between said ground box and said cover, and means permitting removal of said columns from said ground box, said cover having a cover flange sliding on said columns, said cover flange having an axial bore, the upper end of said removable columns and said bore of said cover flange being of conical design, a clamping member provided on said columns at their end projecting into said ground box, means for adjusting said clamping member from the upper end of said columns,
a threaded rod guided through said hollow columns for said clamping member,
the latter having a first oblique face,
a tubular intermediate member disposed at the lower end of said columns and having a second oblique face complementary to said first oblique face,
said ground box having a guide sleeve receiving said intermediate member.
2. The tool carriage, as set forth in claim 1, wherein the lower end face of said column and the upper end face of said guide sleeve are stepwise set 011.
