KNOCKDOWN TABLE.
SFECII-IICATIQN forming part o Letters Patent No. 344,893, dated July 6, 1886.
.Application filed November 18, 1885. Serial No. 153,197.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ELI F. BEARD, a oitizen of the United States, residing at Republic, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knoekdown Tables, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of household furniture in which the parts may be de tached from each other for packing or transportation; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of tables, and novel combination of the parts thereof, whereby the legs may be readily detached from the side rails and top piece.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a part of the top piece and rails of a table having 1n yiniprovements applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents the table-leg detached from the rails and top piece. Fig. 3 represents the leg joined to the rails and top piece, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section.
Thetop pieee,A,of thetable may be secured in the usual manner to the supporting-rails B, which are provided with vertical beads or tenons b. These tenons fit into the vertical grooves or niortises d,eut in the corresponding sides of the legs D, in sucha manner that the tabletop may be raised or lowered by allowing the tenons to slide upward or downward in the inortises. On theinner side of the supporting-rails the cleats E, having slots e, are fseeured, and to thelegs D are attached the Screw-bolts C, having nuts H, which turn When the legs are to be attached to thereon.
(No model.)
the rails and secured in position, the tenons upon the rails are made to slide downward within the mortises in the legs, and the screwbolts to slide upward within the slots e of the cleats E, and when the desired elevation is reached the nuts H are turned down upon the cleats, and thus the legs are secured firmly to the rails. To detach the legs from the rails this operation is reversed-that is to say, the nuts are turned outward, the tenons are made to travel upward in their mortises, and the screw-bolts pass downward through the slots in the cleats.l
Having thus described my invention,Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The supporting-rails B of a table-top, and the cleats E, attached to said rails, and having vertical slots e, in combination with a table-leg having horizontal bolts @,ai'ranged to pass, respectively, through said slots, and the nuts H, turning on said bolts, to clamp said parts together, substantial] y as set forth.
2. The table-top` A and supporting-rails B, the latter having vertical beads or tenons Vb, in combination with vertically-slotted cleats E, attached .to saidrails, table-leg D, having ver` tical grooves or mortises d,to receive said tenons, respectively, and bolts passing horizontally through the slots in said cleats, whereby said leg is clamped to said rails, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
