Description

h W OAUDEL I TRUSS. No. 343,945. Patented June 15,1886.
WITNESSES INVENTOR fi'flww w I ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM OAUDEL, OF WILMINGTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF TWVO-THIRDS TO D. B. MORY, SE, AND D. MOEY, JR, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
TRUSS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 343,945, dated June 15, 1886.
Application filed February 17, 1886. Serial No. 192,237. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GAUDEL. a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in thecounty of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective View of my improved truss. Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5,
and 6 are detail views of the same.
This invention relates to trusses; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and
pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the body or mainspring portion of the truss, which is curved downwardly at one end, and this curved end B of said spring A is forked or bifurcated, and the prongs O D are spread apart, and are provided at their lower ends with short arms orjournals E F, which extend laterally outward or away from each other. Next to the prongs G D the journals E F are provided with collarsG H, which are fixed on said journals and on their front edges. G H are provided with teeth I.
Upon the journals E F the upper ends of 5 the arms K of the pad-plates K K arejour- These collars naled, and the ends of the journals E F are upset to prevent the arms from slipping off.
To the back of each of the pad-plates K K the lower end of a'spring-detent, L, is securely riveted, the upper ends of said detents being 0 arranged to engage the teeth I of the collars G H and prevent backward movement of the padplates, while at the same time permitting the pad-support arms to be turned entirely round to bring the points of the detent springs in the initial or upper notches of the collars G H.
The pads N P are secured to the faces of the pad-plates by screws Q, passed through holes R in the padplates, said screws entering 0 the plain faces of the pads. By this construction the pad-plates may be adjusted to the same angles at one time, or they may be put at different inclinations at the same time.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the forked bodyspring provided with the laterally-extended journals having the toothed collars thereon, of the pad-plates hinged to said journals, and provided with the springdetents, substan tially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignaiure in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM OAUDEL.
