UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SILAS M. HESS, OF BLOOMSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
CULM-BAR.
:BPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 343,370.:1ated June 8, 1886.
Application filed October 13, 1885. Serial No. 179,816. (No model.)
To (6 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SILAS M. HEss, of Bloonisburg, Columbia county. Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Oulnr Bar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved culin-bar which is so constructed that the culm burns perfectly on the same and without any loss whatever.
The invention consists in a culm-bar constructed substantially as will be fully described, and set forth hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of my improved culnl-bar, parts being broken out and others being in section. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, parts being broken out; and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the same on the line mm, Fig. 1.
The two side bars, A, are united by aseries of cross-pieces, B, and have the end heads, 0. The sections D each have one end provided with a V-shaped recess, and the other end with aV-shaped projection fitting the V-shaped recess of the adjacent section. The sections all have longitudinal slots E, through which the draft can pass. The said sections have shouldered downwardly-projecting lugs G, which are passed in between the side bars, A, and thus hold the sections in place. The sections also have lugs H on the side edges, which lugs of the adjacent sections D abut when a series of bars, A, and sections D on the same are combined.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A calm-bar consisting of parallel bars united by cross-pieces and slotted sections, each having a V-shaped recess at one end and a V-shaped projection at the other end, and provided with bottom lugs fitting between the said parallel bars, as specified.
2. In aculm-bar, the combination, with the side bars, A, of the slotted sections D, having theshouldered bottom lugs, G, the sidelugs, H, a V-shaped projection at one end, and a V- shaped recess in the other end, substantially as herein described.
SILAS M. HESS.
