'NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH BAKER, OF ANDOVER, NETV HAMPSHIRE.
HAME ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 342,726, dated May 25, 1886.
Application filed Januarylii, 1556. Serial No. lSS,2l91. (No model.)
: of the ordinary breast or pole strapring, by
-means of which the ring, may be readily attached, removed, orreplaced when desired, and at the same time be secured from accidental removal or displacement.
In carrying out my invention I providea hook adapted to be loosely connected with and held by the lower start of the hame, and so formed that when attached and in place the mouth or opening of the hook shall be closed or covered by the end of the draft-bolt when the latter is also in its place.
In the accompanying drawings I have represented at Figures 1 and 2 back and side views, respectively, of the lower part of a hame ,of ordinary construction and provided with devices embodying my present invention in the form now best known to me. In Fig. 3 I
have shown a convenient modification of the form of the hook.
A represents a hook, loosely or flexibly attached in any desired manner to the lower start, B, of the hame, and 0 represents the bolt, which, it will be observed, when in place covers or closes the mouth of the hook.
\Vhen it is desired to attach the breast or pole ring, the bolt 0 is withdrawn sufliciently to open or uncover the month of the hook. The ring is then slipped in and the bolt 0 is restored to its position, thus closing or covering the mouth of the hook and preventing the accidental displacement of the ring. 0 may be held in this position by a chcck-nut, c, if desired.
For convenience of attachment of the hook A to the lower start, B, the hook may be split or as represented in Fig. 3, which will allow it to be opened suffieiently to be passed over the start, after which the two split portions of the hook are brought together again, and may be secured to each other by a rivet or otherwise, as may be found desirable.
I claim The combination, with the bolt and start of a h ame, of a holdback-hook mounted thereon, the start, bolt, and hook being all located and arranged as shown, whereby the insertion or withdrawal of the bolt opens or closes the month of the hook, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 4th day of January, A. D. 1886.
JOSEPH BAKER.
