Description

(N0 Mdel.)
W. H. TILLOU.
HAME FASTENER.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM HENRY TILLOU, OF LE BOY, NEW YORK.
HAM E-FASTENER.
SPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 342,547, dated May 25, 1886.
Applicatio n filed March 1B, 1886. Seria1 N0. 195,739. (N0 model.)
0f the same, reference being hu.d t0 Lhe drawings accompanying this applic-ution.
My improv.ement relates L0 hat; dass of hmue-IasLeners in which compound levers provided with hooks are pivoted togther, Lhe
hooks engaging with the loops 011 he ends of he hames und Ehe hames being tightened by crossing the levers und closing them together. Such devices are already known.
The invenbion consists in the combination, wibh Ehe levers const-ibuting Ehe haxne-fastener, of a pointed stud 011 the hook of one 0f the levers and a eurved spring on one of the other levers arranged to seoure Ehe levers togetaher when closed and hold them in position as hereinafter more fullydeseribed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is afront elevation 0f a horse-collar with my improvement applied hereto. Fig. 2 is an eularged frout; view of the fastener in the open position. Fig. 3 is a similar view 0f he Same in the closed position.
In the drawings, A, B, and C represent three levers, which, together with a link, D, constitube the fastening devices. The tawo levers AB are pivoted together ab the iuner end, a.s shown ab a, so tha they can be stretched wide open, as shown in Fig. 2, 01 can be cl0sed t ogether famce t0 t'ace, as shown in Fig. 3. The 1ever 0 is a straight: barwhich is pivoted ab b t0 the under lever, B, back of Ehe pivob a. The levers A and C have hooks c d am their outer ends f0r engaging wibh the hames. The 1ever G is preferably made wibh an extension in the rear beyond its pivob provided with pivob-h0les f f, whereby the fasisening may be lengthened 0r shortened a any time no fit; different hames. The link D is provided ab 0ne end with an eye or 100p, y, bhat: engages wibh the hook d, and ab the other end wilah a hook, h, thnt; engages wibh the loop ot' thehameS, said link D forming an extra attachment t0 bhe fastener.
The back, 7c, of the lever A is bowed 01 curved upward some distance above Ehe pivoh a, and its inner end is carried some distance below seid pivot-, as sh0wn in Fig. 3, so thab when the fastening is closed and sbrain is applied the seid curved pzub k will beaxup againstthe rim of ohe ccllar, while Ehe dimetion otsbrain will come above the pivot; a.aud thus the fastening is made self-tightening.
On the outer f-ace of the hook e is am pointed stud, m, and 0x1 the reur end 0t' lever B is %L flat spring, n, which is curved upward und turned outward, as sho wn in Fig. 3, and is provided with a hole, which, when the leverS A B are closed together, catches automatically over the stud and. holds bhe levers t-ogether. The spring is 0f such shape that the downward tendency nf nhe 1ever B will only dmw Ehe spring tighter 011 the stand, but by throwing the spring 01113 bodily by the finge1 they can be readily disengaged.
This invention is applicable hoth 130 driving and working harness, hat; more especially to the latter.
Having described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
In a hame-faslener eonsisting of 'ohe jointed WILLIAM HENRY IILLOU.
