Jan. 21, 1969 YUHUAN wu, 3,422,867
DEVICE FOR WASHING AND DRYING OE DELICATE FABRICS SUCH AS NYLON HOSE, LINGERIE, AND THE LIKE Filed Dec. '21. 1966 HTTO/Q/VEY United States Patent 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for washing and drying delicate fabrics such as nylon hose, lingerie and the like, comprising a bag member consisting of an inner lining of soft, thin, water absorbent material provided with an opening and a slide fastener for sealing the opening. The inner lining is either permanently afiixed or removably secured in an outer casing of toweling material.
This invention relates generally to laundering accessories. More specifically it relates to laundry bags.
It is generally well known that delicate fabrics such as nylon hose and lingerie cannot be washed or dried in automatic washing machines and dryers due to the fabrics becoming snagged upon buttons, clasps or the like of other garments or being pulled due to the violent action of the machine thus causing the same to get runs or being torn.
Accordingly it is a common practice for most women to hand rinse their nylon stockings and delicate fabrics in the wash basin at the end of the day. This daily manual chore is time consuming and accordingly objectionable.
Therefore, it is a principal object of the present invention to provide a device for the laundering and drying of delicate fabrics such as nylon hose, lingerie and the like which has self contained means to permit the delicate fabrics to be laundered and dried without harm in conventional automatic washing machines or dryers, thereby eliminating the hand washing work.
Another object is to provide a device for laundering and drying delicate fabrics which comprises a bag for containing the fabrics, the bag then being receivable into the automatic washer and dryer.
Yet another object is to provide a device for laundering and drying delicate fabrics which contains no projecting buttons, slide fasteners or the like that extend into the bag interior to snag and tear the fabrics.
Yet another object is to provide a laundering and drying device for delicate fabrics that may include an inner lining comprised of a smooth material and a heavier outer material.
Yet another object is to provide a laundering and drying device for delicate fabrics wherein the lined bag will permit an extended time of ten to fifteen minutes for remaining in the dryer thereby allowing the woman time to do something else than instead wait for completion of the operation.
Other objects are to provide a device for laundering and drying of delicate fabrics which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efiicient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention, composed of a singular layer of material.
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of FIGURE 1.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged detail thereof, showing the device in sealed position.
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the present invention, which includes an outer material and an inner liner.
FIG. 5 is a cross sectional view taken on line 5-5 of FIG. 4, and
FIG. 6 is a cross sectional view of another modified form of the invention.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, and to FIG- URES 1 to 3 in particular, the reference numeral 10 represents a device for washing and drying of delicate fabrics such as nylon hose, lingerie and the like, wherein there is a singular bag member 12 made preferably [from Dacron, nylon jersey or soft cotton and which may be cylindrical or rectangular in configuration having opposite end wall panels 14 and a wrap around side wall panel 16 therebetween secured together by stitching 18. An opening 20 in the side panel may be sealed by a plastic slide fastener 22 having elements 24 and 26 on each edge thereof. As shown in FIGURES 2 and 3, the device is designed so that the slide fastener cannot come into contact with the :bag contents. This comprises an extended flap 28 against the inner side of the slide fastener 22 along one of the edges of opening 20.
In FIGURES 4 to 6 a modified device 40 is shown comprised of an outer casing 42 made of toweling and an inner lining 44 made of acetate or soft thin water absorbent material. The lining may be permanently aflixed to the casing by being stitched thereto as shown in FIGURE 5 or it may be made removable therefrom, as shown in FIGURE 6, wherein the inner lining 44a may be secured removably by snap fasteners 46 to the easing 42a.
In operative use, delicate fabrics 48 may be placed into the bag and the slide fastener closed, after which the bag is placed into an automatic washer and washed with other clothes. The bag is then placed into a dryer with the contents still therein, and tumble dried along with other clothes. When the bag is removed, the fabrics therewithin may still :be slightly damp, particularly if the lined model of bag is used, but the fabrics will dry almost immediately after removal therefrom.
When the singular bag member 12, of nylon jersey or the like is used alone, it need only be put in the dryer for about three minutes. When taken out of the dryer at the expiration of this period, the stockings or similar fine fabrics are almost dry. When the device of FIGS. 5 or 6 is used and kept in the dryer for about fifteen minutes, the stockings and similar objects will be likewise almost dry upon removal of the device from the dryer.
It should be noted that the edges of the bag member 12 or the inner linings 44 or 44a are sewn in such a manner as to eliminate as much as possible inner seams, so that actually no open seams show inside of said bags. In addition the bags are sewn Without square corners, but these latter are rounded in production. These above described features assure that the delicate fabric of the stockings or like products will not be snagged.
I claim:
1. In a device for the washing and drying of delicate fabrics such as nylon hose, lingerie and the like, the combination of a bag member comprising an inner lining having opposite end wall panels and a wrap around side panel between said end panels, said panels being secured together by stitching, said side panel having a longitudinal opening for placement of delicate fabrics into a central compartment formed within said bag, and fastening means for sealing said opening, said opening having a pair of side edges, a slide fastener element secured to each of said side edges, said slide fastener elements being secureable together, one of said edges forming an extended flap against the inner side of said slide 'fastener elements when engaged to protect the contents within said compartment from said slide fastener elements, said. bag member comprising an outer casing of toweling material,
said inner lining being made of soft, thin, water absorbent material.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said inner lining is removably secured within said casing.
