United States Patent O 3,414,175 COMBINED GARMENT HANGER AND RECEPTACLE Doris A. Brosk, 150 E. 69th St., New York, N.Y. 10021 Filed July 7, 1964, ser. No. 380,829 4 Claims. (Cl. 223-85) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A combined garment hanger and receptacle which has an upper hook portion, a lower portion for supporting a garment and an inter-mediate portion. A transparent box-like cover having marginal flanges connected to the intermediate body portion, the intermediate body portion and the box-like cover constituting a receptacle for containing an article.
This invention relates to a combined garment hanger and receptacle.
`One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide a practical, efficient and economical combined garment hanger and receptacle, the receptacle portion being adapted to contain an article which may be either given as a premium or sold together with a garmentv supported by the hanger portion.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a device designed to be utilized as a hanger for a garment either for display purposes or for home use, and which incorporates therein a receptacle for an article other than the garment.
These and other objects of the present invention will appear as the description proceeds, yit being understood, however, that it is not intended that the invention be limited to the exact details described herein which illustrate the production of satisfactory examples of many which may be obtained as a result of the knowledge gained through or gleaned from an understanding of the invention; and it is further intended that there be included as part of the invention all such obvious changes and modifications thereof as would occur to a person skilled in the art to which this Iinvention pertains and as would fall within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
In the dra-wings:
FIG. l is a blank forming a hanger, according to the invention;
FIG. 2 is a front view of the blank in yfolded condition to form a han-ger combined with and forming a receptacle for containing an article;
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2 showing the invention in a modified form;
FIG. 4 is a detail side view looking in the direction of the arrows 4-4 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 5 is a detail side View looking in the direction of the arrows 5-5 of FIG. 3;
FIG. 6 is a detail section of the receptacle portion of the combined hanger and receptacle of the device taken through 6-6 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 7 is a detail section of the receptacle portion of the combined hanger and receptacle of the device taken through 7-7 of FIG. 3;
FIG. 8 is a front view of a combined garment hanger and article receptacle according to the invention in a still further modified form;
FIG. 9 `is a front view of a combined -garment hanger and article receptacle according to the invention in a yet another modified form;
FIG. 10 is a side view 10-10 of FIG. 8; and
looking in the direction of ICC FIG. l1 is a side view looking in the direction of 11--11 of FIG. 9.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown in FIG. 1 a blank 15 made of any suitable, preferably flexible material, such as fiberboard, paperboard, etc. Blank 15 is provided at its upper end with a cut-out 16 forming a hook-like extension 17, as well as another cut-out 18 providing a further extension 19. Blank 15 also has two connecting, substantially triangular cut-outs generally indicated by the numeral 20, and a window 21. Blank 15 also has a fold line 22. In order to provide the hanger portion of the device, the blank is folded along the fold line 22 in which case the tri.
angular portions of the cut-out 20 are in register, thus l providing a shoulder portion 23 which, together with shoulder portion or extension 19, is employed to 'support shoulder portions of the garment as seen in FIG. 2. At the same time, the cut-out 24 registers with a corresponding portion of cut-out 16. Thus, blank or body 1S now forms garment hanger 14, its lower end portion constituting the part which supports the garment.
As shown in FIGS. 2 and 6, in order to provide a receptacle 29 to hold a small carton or other container 2S, a transparent box-like cover 26, which is conventionally known as a blister, is provided with marginal flanges 27 on the open end thereof. The marginal ilanges 27 are sandwiched between portions 15a and 15b of the intermediate body portion of blank 15 when folded, and the box-like cover 26 projects through the opening 21. Cover 26 may be stapled, as. indicated at 28 (FIG. 2), to the folded portions of blank 15.
In FIG. 3, in lieu of having the folded portion 15b of the body or blank, the hanger is comprised of portion 15a alone, constituting hanger 30 shown in FIG. 3, and in lieu of using blank portion 15b as a back cover for receptacle 29, there is provided la backing plate 31 which is slightly larger than that of the cut-out 21, and the marginal iianges 27 are stapled to hanger 30 and backing plate 31 by means of staples 32. Receptacle 29 may either hold carton 25 which, in turn, contains any desired articles, such as toys, t-rinkets, etc., generally indicated by the numeral 29a, or the articles 29a may be contained within receptacle 29 without a carton.
Numeral 33 in FIGS. 2 and 3 generally indicate, in dash lines, a portion of the garment being supported by the hanger.
Referring to FIGS. 8 and 10, which show a further modiiication of the invention, there is provided a hanger -generally indicated by the numeral 40, which comprises identical portions 40a, 40h folded along line 41. However, portion 40 is provided with a window or opening 42. Between portions 40a and 40h there is sandwiched marginal flanges 44 of transparent box-like cover or blister 45, the same projecting through the opening or window 42. Marginal flanges 44 are stapled to sections 40a and 4Gb, as indicated by numeral `46. According to FIGS. 9 and ll, the hanger comprises a single sheet of material S0 upon which is stapled transparent box-like cover or blister S1 by means of staples 52. Within receptacle 53 formed by hanger 40 and box-like cover 45 (FIGS. 8 and 10), or within receptacle 53a formed by hanger 50 and boxdike cover 51 (FIGS. 9 and l1), there may be placed .any desired article, such as a toy 54, or any novelty or small article of wear.
Although the drawings and above specification disclose the best modes in which the embodiments of the invention are contemplated, it is desire-d in no way to be limited to details of such disclosure, for further practical application of the invention may be made as circumstances require or experience suggests without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A combined garment hanger and :receptacle comprising a substantially rectangular flat body having upper, lower, and intermediate portions, means on the upper portion for suspending said hanger and receptacle, cutout means formed in the lower portion for supporting a garment, said intermediate portion including an opening fonned therein, a transparent box-like cover extend- Iing to one side of said liat body having marginal anges on the open end about the openin-g on the other side of said dat body, and means for forming a closed receptacle with said -boX-like cover and for securing said box-like cover to said intermediate portion.
2. A combined hanger and lreceptacle according to cla-im 1, wherein said means includes a backing plate secured to said intermediate portion.
3. A combined hanger and receptacle according to claim 2, wherein said marginal anges are secured between said intermediate portion and said backing plate.
4. A combined hanger and receptacle according to claim 2, wherein said means includes a fold line intermediate the width of said rectangular body forming two panels, one of said panels being said backing plate which is folded about said fold line to form said receptacle.
