Definitions

  • ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A ceiling having a plurality of metal sheets wherein each sheet has longitudinal edges with upwardly directed flanges.
  • the flanges have projections extending in the same direction which engage the projections upon an adjacent sheet.
  • Laterally spaced beams extend transversely of the sheets with recesses therein Corresponding to the projections.
  • one of the flanges of each sheet has an upwardly directed edge portion which engages in a groove provided in the recesses of the beams.
  • This invention relates to a ceiling consisting of elongated profile metal sheets the longitudinal edges of which are in the form of upwardly directed flanges having unidirectionally extending projections which in the mounted state of the ceiling are adapted to engage each other and also to engage in recesses provided in laterally spaced beams or like elements to extend in the same direction and correspond to said projections.
  • the ceiling according to the present invention is char acterized by the fact that the flanges of one of the metal sheets is provided above the projection of the flange with an upwardly directed edge portion, said edge portions being adapted to engage in upwardly directed grooves corresponding to said edge portions and provided in the beams at the recesses therein. It has thus been made possible by the invention to secure the metal sheet ceiling to the beams or like elements, the fixation being such as to permit mounting and dismounting the metal sheets of the ceiling independently of each other.
  • FIG. 1 is a side elevation of a beam provided with recesses for the metal sheets
  • FIG. 2 is a cross section of the profile metal sheet
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a cross-section of the mounted ceiling sheets.
  • the elongated metal sheets 1 forming the ceiling have their longitudinal edges provided with fixation means to permit the fixation of the sheets to laterally spaced apart beams 2 or like elements suspended from the roof in some way or other.
  • the longitudinal edges of the metal sheets 1 are formed by upwardly directed flanges 3 and 4 which are provided with unidirectional-1y extending projections 5 and 6. These projections 5 and 6 are adapted in the mounted state of the ceiling to engage each other and also to engage in recesses 7 provided in the laterally spaced apart beams 2 to extend in the same direction and correspond to the projections.
  • the beams 2 preferably are L-profile members having the recesses 7 in the downwardly directed flange thereof.
  • the flange 4 of the metal sheets 1 is provided above the projection 6 of the flange with an upwardly directed edge portion 8.
  • Said edge portions 8 are adapted to en- Patented Nov. 26, 1968 gage in upwardly directed grooves 9 corresponding to said edge portions and provided in the beams 2 at the recesses 7 therein. Due to the engagement of the edge portion 8 in the groove 9 the metal sheet 1 is prevented from being moved laterally in relation to the recesses 7, and therefore the metal sheet 1 is retained in its position at the beams 2 independently of the other metal sheets.
  • the metal sheet 1 rests on the projections 10 beneath the recesses 7.
  • the projections 5 and 6 at the upwardly directed flanges 3 and 4 of the metal sheets are semicircularly curved in cross section so as to engage each other.
  • the recesses 7 in the beams 2 are semicircular to permit the projections to engage in said recesses.
  • This configuration is also important to the mounting and dismounting of the metal sheets 1 at which operations there may be allowed a certain rotation and movement between the projections 5 and 6 and the recess 7.
  • these In connection with the mounting and dismounting of individual metal sheets 1 these have to be bent slightly against their spring action, and they should therefore be thin. They may be constituted for instance by 0.5 mm. thin aluminium sheets having a distance between the projections 5 and 6 of mm.
  • the projection 5 at the upwardly directed flange 3 of the sheet 1said flange preferably being 10 mm. highis provided on a portion 11 which extends from the flange 3 and is plane parallel with the sheet 1 proper.
  • the portion 11 is 10 mm. wide. This gives the impression of panels and at the same time facilitates the mounting and dismounting of the individual sheets 1.
  • the recesses 7 in the beams 2 naturally must have such a lateral extension that the portions 11 are accommodated therein.
  • the projections 5 and 6 are equidistant from the planar portion of the metal sheet 1, but in another embodiment they could be disposed at different distances from the planar portion so that the metal sheets 1 in the transverse direction will incline relative to the beams 2 which can normally be situated at a distance from each other exceeding one metre, say 1.25 metre.
  • the radii of the recesses 7 are 3 mm. and the centres of the recesses are situated 5 mm. above the lower edge 12 of the beam 2.
  • the depth of the recesses thus is 8 mm.
  • the grooves 9 are 4 mm. deep and 1 mm. wide.
  • the projections may be for instance planar portions or angularly bent portions.
  • Ceiling comprising a plurality of elongated profile metal sheets, each sheet having longitudinal edges with upwardly directed flanges having unidirectionally extending projections which engage the projections of an adjacent sheet, laterally spaced beams extending transversely of said sheets having recesses extending into each beam having a longitudinal extent greater than the longitudinal extent of each projection, one of said flanges of each metal sheet having an upwardly directed edge portion above one of said projections and said beams having upwardly directed grooves at said recesses therein for receiving and engaging said edge portions for stabilizing said sheet.
