SHlNGLlNG-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,178, dated May 4, 1886. Application filed February i, 1886. Serial No. 190,837. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK SrEoHr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksborough, in the county of Jack and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shingling-Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an improvement in shingling-brackets; and it consists in the pe' culiar construction and combination of devices, that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out. in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shingling-bracket embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same in another position.
Arepresents a frame or arm, which is composed of the side bars, B, and the connecting transverse bars 0. The upper ends of the side bars are beveled, as at b, and provided with projecting studs 1).
To the lower ends of the bars B, on their under sides, are secured metallic plates D, which plates have lower extending sharpened and bent prongs, d.
E represents a similar frame or arm, which is somewhat shorter than the frame or arm A, and is composed of the side bars, F, and the connecting transverse bars G. Metallic plates H, having sharpened prongs h, are secured to the outer ends of the bars F on the under sides thereof. The inner ends of the bars F are provided with a series of serrations or notches, I, on their under sides, which extend for a suitable distance, and are adapted to receive the beveled upper ends of the bars B, recesses i being made in the faces of the serrations to receive the studs 1). Angleplates L are bolted or screwed on the inner ends of the bars F on the upper sides thereof.
M represents connecting-rods, which have their ends pivoted to the bars B and F, as shown, so as to form links for connecting the frames A and E together, and to allow the said frames to be folded together when not in use, or to be adjusted at any desired angle relative to each other.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The frames A and E are secured together at the requisite'angle, according to the pitch of the roof to be shingled, and the bracket is secured thereto by means of the prongs d and h, and thereby prevented from slipping. Two or more of the brackets are secured on the roof in a line with each other, and footboards are placed on the upper sides of the frames E, which are in a horizontal position, the said boards being prevented from slipping off the frames or arms by means of the angleplates L, which form stops therefor.
When the bracket is not in use, it can be readily folded into a very small compass.
Having thus described my invention I claim 1. In a shingling-bracket, the combination of the frames or arms A and E and the links connecting them together, the frame Ehaving notches to receive the upper end of the-frame A, to secure them together at any desired angle, substantially as described.
2. In a shingling-bracket, the combination of the frame A, having the studs 1), the frame E, having the recessesi to receive the said studs, and the links connecting the said frames together, substantially as described.
3. In a shingling-bracket, the combination of the frame A, having the beveled upper ends provided with the studs 1) and the prongs d at its lower ends, the frame E, having the prongs h, the serrations or notches I, toreceive the upper ends of the frame A, the recesses in said notches for the studs 1), and the links connecting the frames A and E, whereby the latter may be adjusted to any desired angle or folded together, substantially as described.
