MODE 0F WRAPPING GOLORS.

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KNO\VLES EDGE, OF RAPHAEL STREET, BOLTON, COUNTY OF LANCASTER,
ENGLAND.
MODE OF WRAPPING COLORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,434, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed November 18, 1885. Serial No. 193,210. (Specimens) Patented in England September 22, 188-], No. 12,666.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KNOWLES EDGE, residing at Raphael Street, Brownlow Fold, Bolton, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Method of \Vrapping or Parceling up Soluble or Insoluble Blue or other Color, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 12,666, September'22, 1884,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new or improved method of wrapping up or parceling up soluble or insoluble blue or other color used by bleachers, dyers, or for domestic purposes in suitable forms, such as in crystal, pressed blocks, pieces, powder, or any other convenient form.
The soluble or insoluble blue orother color, A, in Figure 1, is wrapped or parceled up, in the forms before stated, in the bag or cloth B, the latter being of any kind of woven fiber, either animal, vegetable, or mineral. In the top end of the bag or cloth B is placed (after the blue or other coloris inserted) the attachmentor handle 0, being made, as desired, of either wood, glass, india-rubber, gutta-percha, pressed paper, or other equivalents, such as earthenware made from int'usible earth. The attachment or handle 0 is constructed with the heads D and D, the part inserted into the neck of the bag or cloth B being likewise, which allows it to be tied up round the neck E, above the inverted head D, with the string F or other equivalents.
5 It is lntended to sell soluble or insoluble blue or other color wrapped or parceled up in this form, thus dispensing with the necessity of unwrapping, thereby preventing the staining of the operators hands or fingers 0 when it is important they should be clean, at
the same time removing the annoyance from staining the articles under operation.
The blue or other color being-inclosed in the bag or cloth B insures sieving, and retains all coarse or impure particles from the water, starch, or other liquids into which it is placed, thus reducing the annoyance (r inconvenience from speaking or clouding.
It will be found that by this method of wrapping or parceling up it can be wrung when a sufficient quantity of blue or other color has been extracted, when the. bag or cloth and its contents may be put aside for an indefinite or otherperiod, as desired, thus economizin'g color, being at the same time a 53' useful and convenient stirrer.
In cases where large quantities are required at once sewed or other bags are employed.
Fig. 2 is an outside view of Fig. 1.
In some cases it may be found advantageous 6:; to wrap or parcel up without the attachment or handle 0, when the neck of the bag or the ends of the cloth B are left long enough to allow of being handled, as in Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A bluing or color package consisting of the bag B and a handle, 0, having a head, D and D, at opposite ends, said bag being detach- 7o ably secured to the handle adjacent to one of said heads, as described.
In witness whereof I, the said KNowLEs EDGE, have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of November, A. D. 1885.
KNOWLES EDGE.
