SOOT AGGUMULATOR. No. 340.113. PatentedApr. 20, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW JACKSON GRUSH AND JOHN BENTON SIMMONS CASE, OF
DEFIANOE, IOlVA.
SOOT-ACCUM ULATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part'of Letters Patent No,340,113, dated April 20,1886.
Application filed January 26, 1885. Serial X0. 154,075. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ANDREW JACKSON GRUsH and JOHN BENTON SIMMONS CASE, citizens of the United States, residing at Defiance, in the county of Shelby and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in soot-accumulators for the purpose of accumulating the soot in stovepipes and other smoke-pipes and removing the same therefrom, of which invention the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
Our invention consists of a certain novel construction of soot-accumulators for stovepipes and other smoke-pipes, which will be fully understood from the following descrip tion and claim.
The accompanying drawing represents a side view of a part of a stove-pipe with our soot-accumulator attached thereto, said pipe having both a vertical and a horizontal portion therein, and each portion having a sootdischarge or cap for removing the accumulated soot.
The two vertical portions A A of the smokepipe are connected by means of an elbow, O, and the upper part has a dependent pocket, B, provided with a removable cap, B, through which the soot may be removed from said F, provided with a slide, G, by means of which said hole may be opened and closed at pleasure. By means of this scraper the soot lodged in the lower part of this pipe D may be scraped into the upper pocket, B, and then removed therefrom, as already mentioned, by removing the cap from said pocket.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a soot-accumulator, the combination of the pipe D, having a pocket, B, provided with a removable cap, scraper E, and slide G, all arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
ANDREW JACKSON GRUSll. JOHN BENTON SIMMONS CASE.
