UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM N. FISHER AND EDDA A. FISHER, OF XENIA, INDIANA.
KITCHEN-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,836, dated March 30, 1886.
Application filed July 25, 1885. Serial No. 172,607. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, \VILLIAM N. FISHER and EDDA A. FISHER, citizens of the United States, residing at Xenia, in the county of Miami and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to certain improvements in kitchen-cabinets; and it consists, mainly, in a sliding dough-board, in combination with meal and flour bins, an intermediate receptacle for a removable pan, drawers below the same, and side compartments, all arranged as will be fully understood from the following description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents, a front view, and Fig. 2 is a top View showing the lid raised. Fig. 3 is a Vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 4 is a crosssection taken on line mac, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is also a cross-section taken on line yy, Fig. 3; and Fig. 6 is a similar section taken on line z 2, Fig. 3.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates a rectangular box or case, which may be of any convenient size, and which may be mounted on casters. This box or case is provided with a hinged cover, B, closely fitting, two front doors, 0 O, and also with end handles, a a.
D indicates a compartment which is designed for containing flour. Between these two compartments is a receptacle, E, which is adapted to receive a flanged mixing-pan, F, covered by a dough-board, F, and provided with recesses or hand-holes b b, for the purpose of allowing the said flanged pan to be readily removed.
Below the receptacle E, and within the vertical area thereof, are drawers G G G which are subdivided and designed for containing knives and forks, spoons, sugar, coffee, a rolling-pin, spices, and other articles necessary and useful about a complete kitchen-cabinet. On one side of the said series of drawers are shelves, forming compartments designed for receiving pie-pans, pies, and cakes, and bread, and on the opposite side of said drawers are compartments which are adapted to contain cooking vessels and utensils.
7 It will be observed by reference to the drawings that the front wall, a, of the meal-compartment is inclined. This is also the case with the front wall of the flour-compartment. The object of arranging said walls in this manner is to afford large openings for both the meal and flour compartments, and at the same time provide the front shelved receptacle, as above specified. It will also be seen that the dough-board F affords a cover for the mixingpan F, and that this board can be slid over the meal-compartment when desired, and also that this board holds the flanges down snugly in place and prevents the entrance of vermin. When said board is slid over the mixing-pan, its movement is arrested by the stop (I.
In using the pan F for making dough it is important to have the meal-compartment D covered, to prevent water, &c., from falling therein.
By arranging the dough-board F as described we are able to conveniently use it as a cover for the meal-compartment while making dough. Said board therefore serves at different times as a cover for the pan F, a cover for the meal-compartment, and as a dough-board.
Having described our invention, what we claim is In a kitchen-cabinet provided with a central drawer-receptacle, side receptacles, and a single hinged cover, the combination of the receptacle E, having hand-holes on opposite sides of it, the flanged pan F, supported as described, and the laterally-sliding dough-board F, arranged to slide over said pan and also over the meal-compartment D, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM N. FISHER. EDDA A. FISHER. Witnesses:
A. J. VINE, J. W. EWARD.
