KUN O M OSER BY M 6% AGEN United States Patent 5 Claims. (51. 128-52) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A massage fixture connected to a reciprocating drive device which converts to pulsed shock movement. The massage fixture has a driving spindle with a driving piece mounted between two resilient members, one of the members is a rubber annulus and the other member is a 'helical spring surrounding a portion of the spindle.
This invention relates to massage fixtures for electrical driving apparatus, more particularly dry-shaving apparatus, in which a reciprocating driving movement can be changed to a pulsed shock movement and in which the driving spindle for massage parts to be placed on includes a driving piece between two supports which is supported relative thereto by means of resilient members arranged on each side of the driving spindle.
It is already known for massage apparatus to impart a pulsed shock movement to the driving spindle which has an electromagnetic vibration drive between the two supports. Between the vibration drive and the supports helical springs are splipped on the spindle, which support the drive relative to the supports. By means of the oscillatory assembly comprising helical springs and a vibration drive, the driving spindle can perform oscillating movements in the axial direction. For adjusting the mobility it is possible to screw thread pins into the casing of the massage apparatus by means of which the helical springs may be compressed so that the resilience of the oscillatory assembly becomes adjustable.
However, the described arrangement has the disadvantage that it is difiicult to set defined and also adjustable limits to the form of the oscillations.
According to the invention this disadvantage is avoided in a massage fixture for electrical driving apparatus, more particularly dry-shaving apparatus, in which a reciprocating driving movement can be changed to a pulsed shock movement and in which the driving spindle for massage parts to be attached includes a driving piece between two supports which is supported relative thereto by means of resilient members arranged on each side of the driving piece, in that the two supporting members have different modules of elasticity. The movements of the shaft may thus be damped quite arbitrarily and matched to individual requirements.
In one desirable embodiment of the invention one resilient supporting member takes the form of a helical spring surrounding the spindle as is already known, while the other member has an annular shape and consists of an elastic damping material, for example rubber. For adjusting the oscillation amplitudes of the assembly use is preferably made of the adjustability of the elasticity of the rubber ring obtained by means of a set screw which may be screwed in a known manner into the casing of the extension piece.
In order that the invention may be readily carried intc effect, one embodiment thereof will now be described it detail, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing.
A driving spindle 3 is supported twice in a casing 1 of 2 massage fixture, that is to say in a front part 5 and a real part 7 thereof. In the rear part of the casing the spindle 3 extends into a bore 9 of a set screw 11.
The driving spindle 3 includes a driving piece 13 between its points of support 5 and 7. If the massage fixture is placed on a shaving apparatus (not shown) 2 driving cam 15 of the shaving apparatus engages in the driving piece 13 so that a pulsed shock movement can be imparted to the driving spindle 3. Between the driving piece 13 and a front support 17 of the spindle is a helical spring 19 which surrounds the spindle 3 and which alsc supports the driving piece 13 relative to the front sup port 17. Further an annular buffer 21 consisting of rubbel is arranged on the shaft 3 between the driving piece 12 and the set screw 11. The initial tension of the rubber ring 21 is adjustable by means of the set screw 11 which ma; be screwed into the casing.
While the helical spring 19 tends to intensify tht oscillations imparted to the spindle by the driving cam the rubber ring 21 tends to damp the said oscillations This damping increases as the set screw 11 is screwec farther into the casing and hence the rubber ring 21 i: subjected to greater initial tension.
An extension piece 23 of the driving spindle 3 whicl projects from the casing 1 and on which various massag parts (not shown) can be placed has a centre line whicl is slightly at an angle to the centre line of the part of ll'lt spindle within the casing 1. It is thus ensured that th fixtures are tilted slightly relative to the direction of tilt pulsed shock movement of the spindle 3, thus improving the massage action of a fixture the working surface 0: which extends at right angles to the axis of the exten sion 23.
The massage fixture need not strictly have a form suitable to be placed on dry-shaving apparatus. It cal readily be integral with the apparatus instead of being detachable therefrom as a loose part.
What is claimed is:
1. A massage fixture adapted to be connected to reciprocating electric drive device comprising a casin; means for changing said reciprocating drive movemen to a pulsed shock movement in said casing, a drivin; spindle in said casing and operatively connected to sai means for changing said reciprocating drive movement tr said pulsed shock movement, said driving spindle in cluding a driving piece, two spaced supports for sait driving piece located therebetween, at least two resilien members mounted on opposite sides of said driving piecl and each connecting a support to said driving piece, sait resilient members having different moduli of elasticity 2. A massage device adapted to be connected to reciprocating electric drive device as claimed in claim I wherein one of said resilient members is a helical sprin; surrounding a part of said driving spindle and the othe resilent member is an annulus of elastic dampin material.
3. A massage device adapted to be connected to reciprocating electric drive device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said annulus of elastic damping material is con stituted of rubber.
