UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
FRANK SHEPHERD, OF FREELANDVILLE, INDIANA.
ADJUSTABLE ATTACHMENT FOR CAMERA-STANDS, SCHOOL-DESKS, &c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,876, dated March 16, 1886.
Application filed May 16, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK SHEPHERD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Freelandville, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camera-Stands,&c., of which the followingis a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in camera-stands, school and writing desks, and center-tables.
The object of the invention is to provide a more ready and convenient means for adj usting the camera and for lowering and raising the writing desks and tables.
WVith this end in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, to which reference is to be had, and which fully illustrate my invention,Figure lis a front view of the camerastand, and Fig. 2 a side sectional illustration of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of desk attachment, and Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the pivot or pin in connection with the central screw.
Like letters refer to like parts in the several figures.
A represents the stand, and B BB the legs, which are made integral therewith.
O O are the top and bottom pieces. The bottom piece is provided with a perforation, 0, through which the central screw, (Z, passes, screw (2 being provided with bevel'gears cl (8 and crank-shaft E, asshown in Fig. 2, and connected with the crank E and handle E, for operating the same. The uprights ff support the adjustable top E, which is intended to receive the camera, writingdesk, or table, as desired or required.
The central screw, d, and gear-wheels d (F, crank E, and handle E" serve to operate the machine, and provide for its vertical movements. The screw operates in the nut H,
which is bolted between the upri htsffat the bottom, as shown in Figs. 1 and The top F is composed of a base, f, and adjustable top G, Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the whole of which derives its vertical movement from the screw d, operated by bevel-wheels d d and crank and handle E E Serial No. 165,730. (No model.)
The adjustable top G is hinged to the crosspiece 9, as shown in Fig. 2. The central screw, (1, operates on pins or pivots a" as above the top and below the bottom pieces, 0 O, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, thereby preventing the screw from rising above the bottom and below said top pieces 0, a loose washer-nut, 0c, and washer a being provided at the end of the screw d for steadying the same.
The adjustable top F is provided with ascrrated cuiwed rack, K, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, which isintended to hold it in position. The serrated rack K is secured to the under side of a plate on the adj ustahle top G, as shown in Fig. 3 and marked S S. The serrated rack K passes through a perforation or slot, I, in lower top board, F. The rack K is made at right angles with strip 9 on rear end of lower top board, F, and is held in position by a ratchet-catch plate, 0, as shown in Fig. 3, and is operated by a button or screw, M, which, when pressed upon, releases the serrated rack K, and allows the adjustable top G a vertical (or tilting) motion independent of that given.
by central screw d.
From the foregoing description it will be obvious that the construction and operation of my device are simple and effective both in its adjustment and movements as a camerastand and in its application to desks of any of the well-known constructions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a camera-stand, the combination, with the frame A, having legs 13, integral thcrewith, ofthe uprightsff, bevel-gears d d", central screw, d, provided at the top and bottom with the pivots or pins as m, crank-shaft E, crank E, rack K, and boards F G, the board F having the slot 1 therein for the passage of the rack, all constructed and, arranged in the manner specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK SHEPHERD.
