To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, JAKoB GLASER and JOHN GLAsER, both subjects of the King of Wiirtemberg, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Newspaper-Files, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a paper-file embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof in line y y, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a section in line x 00, Fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Our invention consists of a file for news and other papers, constructed of a stick and rod or bar for holding the paper, and a sleeve for controlling said rod, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a stick, which is made of wood, but any other suitable material may be employed therefor, the same being provided with a handle, B, whereby the file may be conveniently held and operated.

0 represents a rod or bar, formed of wire or other suitable metal or material, which is freely attached at one end to the end of the stick opposite to the handle B, and its other or.free end is adapted to be fitted under a sliding sleeve, D, the latter encircling the stick adjacent to said handle, it being noticed that said sleeve is pressed in the direction from the handle by a spring, E, the under end of the handle being recessed to receive said spring and adjacent end of the sleeve. The outer or upper end of the rod 0 passes through an opening in the side of a ferrule or cap, F, secured to the end of the stick, and is formed with a bend, G, which is located within said ferrule, whereby the rod is prevented from displacement from said ferrule. and has in a manner a pivotal connection with the same. The

portion of the rod just outside of the ferrule is bent outwardly, as at H, so as to increase the elasticity of the rod, and the opposite end of said rod is adapted to enter a recess, J, in the stick, so that the rod is deflected when fitted within the sleeve D, and thus caused to fly out when released. It will be seen that a paper may be readily passed under the rod, and the latter then retained by the sleeve D, which is primarily pushed in the direction toward the handle, so as to permit the end of the rod to be fitted in the said sleeve, and then let go, so as to embrace the end of the rod, it being noticed that the rod clamps the paper firmly against the stick and prevents shifting of the same, so that the paper may then be conveniently and surely held by the file. By properly moving the sleeve D the end of the rod is nncovered,and the rod then quickly springs out, turning on the ferrule as a pivot, so that the paper may be removed or an additional paper or papers applied to the file, after which the rod is pressed toward the stick and secured by the sleeve, thus being again controlled as before.

The file has an eye, K, whereby it may be hung on a hook, nail, &c., for evident pun poses.

Having thus described our invention. what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A paper-file consisting of the stick A, the spring-bar O, the sleeve D, spring E, and handle B, having a recess to receive said spring and sleeve, substantially as described.

2. A paper-file consisting of asticleA. having the recess J, the bar 0, with bends H and G, the ferrule F, with opening, the spring E and sleeve D, and the handle B, having a recess to receive said spring and sleeve, substantially as described.
