GRAIN HLLING AND SCOURING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,284, dated March 2, 1886.
.Application tiled June 15,1885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH BERNHARD ROLLE, of Ischopenthal, iu the Kingdom of Saxony, and in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain Hulling and Securing Machines; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to devices for removing the hulls from grain and scouring it.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings represents a front elevation, partly in section, of a machine embodying the said invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof with the casing or frame 13 removed. Fig. 3 represents one of the knives in detail, the same being shown both in elevation and in end view.
The machine is driven by any suitable motor, which is geared by belting to a beltwheel, b, mounted on and turning with a shaft, a, which is journaled in bearings on standards A', erected on a bed, A. On this shaft is mounted the hulling-cylinder c, which turns therewith, said cylinder being of sheet metal and provided on its outer face with hullingknives d. These knives are attached to the heads of the cylinder, as well as to the sides, and in every instance the attachment is such as to allow the removal of the knife when worn and the substitution of another therefor.
. To this end I prefer to provide each knife with a screw-threaded shank, d.
The letters f and g designate concaves or semi-cylindrical shells, which are fixed in position outside of said cylinder and concentric therewith. Concave g, inclosing the upper part of said cylinder, is provided with fine rasping-teeth on its inner face, and is perforated, afterthe manner of a sheet-metal rasp or grater. The lower concave, f, is provided with openings m. Each of these concaves is Serial No, 168,715. (No model.)
l rigidly secured by angle-irons h to an upright casing or frame, fi, erected on base A,and consisting of two parallel plates on opposite sides of the cylinder, each bearing the above letter of reference. The grainis discharged through a hopper, k, arranged at one side of the cylinder, into the space between it and the concaves. Slides or doors n o p in one side of the casingz' cover passages communicating with the interior of said space. As these doors are arranged at dierent points of the circumference of the cylinder, they permit the grain to be withdrawn after being acted on by the knives, as stated. The dust and fine rubbish fall through openings m in lower concave, f. An exterior shell or dust-guard, r, concentric with concave g,prevents the dust and deleterious particles from lying from the upper part of the cylinder into the surrounding air. The knives d have double edges and concave ends, to increase their efficiency. The doors n o p are arranged opposite different points of the periphery of the cylinder-that is to say, at points which the grain will reach after Varying degrees of hulling action-so that the grain drawn from one door will be more perfectly hullcd than that drawn from another.
I claim- The cylinder c, having knives on its periphery and its heads, in combination with the upper rasp-like concave, g, and the lower concave, f, having slots m, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of April, 1885.
FRIEDRICH BERNHARD ROLLE. Witnesses:
JN0. L. PARIsH, C. C. MAsoN.
