Description

$Feb. 23, 1886;
Xim Sim Patente HGB H. M. GROUSE.
COMBINED TAG AND BNVELOPB.
(No Model.)v
UNTTED STATES .PATENT OFFTCE.
HENRY M. OROUSE, OF SYRAOUSE, NEW YORK.
COMBINED TAG AND ENVELOPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,841, dated February 23 1886.
I Application field September 9, 1885. Serial No. 176,610. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that l, HENRY M. ORoUsE, of the city of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Tag and Envelope, of which'the following is a specitication giving a full, clear, and exact descrip tion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in wl1ich Figure l is a plan View of the blank from which the combined tag and envelope is constructed, the dotted lines indicating the folds; Fig. 2, a front View of same complete; Fig. 3, a back View of same complete; Fig. 4, a longitudinal vertical section on line a: m in Fig. 3.
My invention consists of a shipping-tag and envelope combined, constructed of a single piece of paper folded to form an open-ended envelope, and closed tightly at all points but one end, which open end is not provided with any flap to close it, but is partially closed by tying a cord in and through holes adjacent to the open end, the cord passing through these holes and tying down over the edges of this open end, the same cord being also capable of use to secure the tag to the package.
It is constructed as follows: I cut a piece of paper into the form shown in Fig. 1, and in which A represents that part of the blank which constitutes the front face of the article; B, the Hap to close one end; a b c, the foldinglines, and C D the side pieces of the blank, which when folded over constitute the back.
To create the envelope I fold the part C over inwardly upon the line a, the part D over inwardly upon the line b, and the flap B over onto them, upon the line c, and secure them together by an eyelet, d, near the bottom, or by any ordinary means.
I make theparts C D wide enough so that when folded over their edges will overlap a little for fastening. I also insert an eyelet, d', in the end of the front A, near the center and adjacent to the edge, and an eyelet, d", in the back adjacent to its edge, and through the overlap, as shown in the drawings, and both of these eyelets coincide with each other.
E is the cord, which in my device performs a double function, viz: it first passes through the eyelets d d2, and lwhen tied down closes the open end of the envelope sufficiently to prevent loss of its contents; and, second, I secure the tag to the package by the free ends of the cord, beyond the knot.
S represents a bill or invoice folded and inclosed within the tag.
After the invoice isinserted, I pass the cord through the eyelets d dl and tie it across the open end of the envelope, and tie it tightly, and thus partially close that end, enough so that the invoice cannot slip out or be lost, and then secure the tag to the package by the free ends of the cord.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combined tag and envelope constructed with an open mouth without any cover-ap, provided with coincident `eyelets adjacent thereto, through which the cord E is tied to close the mouth, substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of August, 1885.
HENRY M. OROUSE.
In presence of C. W. SMITH, S. D. GILsoN.
