UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEROME IV. ROPP, OF ELYRIA, OHIO.
LOOP AND BAR FOR HARNESS.
SPECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,594, dated February 23, 1886.
Applicathn filed November 9, 1885. Serial No. 182,181. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEROME W. ROPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elyria, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful device for re taining lines and securing neck-straps to neckplate of breast-collar harness for horses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined loops and bar for retaining the neckstraps and lines in single breast-collar harness for horses; and the object of myilnprovement is to provide such a combination of loops and bar as will be durable and effectually retain the neck-straps attached to the breast-collar to the neck-plate over the neck and also form a support and retaining-loop for the lines, thereby preventing the lines from falling down when left slack and their liability of catching under the ends of the shafts. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is a top plan view of my invention. Fig. II is a side view of same. Fig. III is an end view of same, and Fig. IV shows my invention applied to a section of a neck strap plate of a breast-collar harness.
Similar letters refer to similar partsthronghout the several views.
A represents a metallic loop, formed of suitable size to permit a neck-strap to run through it freely, and is of the form indicated in the drawings. a represents the top part of said loop, a the bottom part of said loop, and a rivet-holes in the bottom part of the loop.
0 represents a projecting bar connecting the loops A A, and is ofsuitable form and size to permit of aline, either flat or round, running freely under said bar 0 when or after my in vention is applied to a harness. The bar may be of any desired form,to suit the taste or fancy of the user.
1) represents apart or section of the neckstrap plate to which my invention has been ap plied.
1) represents a part or section of a neckstrap passing through the loops A A of my invention, and (Z represents a section ofa line passing under the bar 0, and shows the manner in which it is supported and retained in place by same.
The operation of myinvention is as follows, to wit: The end loops, AA, are secured to the neck-plate of a breast-collar harness by riveting the same securely thereto by inserting rivets through the neckplate and the holes a a in the ends of the bottom side of the loops. The neck-straps are then passed through said loopsin the same manner as if made ofleather. The line is then passed through the opening formed by the projecting bar 0 on one side and the neck-strap on the other side, being effectually retained thereby in place.
What I claim as new,and desire to obtain by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a combined rein and neck-strap holder, the raised or arched bar 0, provided with the terminal loops, A A, the bottom parts, a a, of which are constructed to extend beyond the upper part a sufficient distance to admit of being fastened or riveted to the harness by means of the holes a a, all as above set forth, and snbstantiall y as described.
