Description

artnr trice,
GEORGE A. TAYLOR, OF NEV HAMPTON, IOVA.
STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 335,974, dated February 9, 1886.
Application filed June 27, 18'85. Serial No. 169,994.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Hampton, in the county of Chickasaw and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or iigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l ofthe drawings isa representation of a vertical sectional view. Fig. 2 is ahorizontal section on line a: x, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a detail view.
My invention relates to heating-stoves; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the base ot' the stove, which is of cast-iron, and comprises the baseplate B, the inclosing sides B', and the top plate B2, said top plate being provided with a central opening, B3, for the grate B4, said opening B3 communicating with the ash-pan receptacle B5. The grate B" is dished inf Wardly and downwardly, and is provided with a central dumping plate or section, D, which is rigidly secured to a dumping-rod, E, which also serves as a shaking-rod for the grate.
G designates the tire-pot, which is provided with an outwardly-flaring flanged rim, G', the rear portion of which is provided with agrated or barred portion, G, which permits a downdraft to the eXit-iiue H.
A cold-air flue, I, leads from the bottomiof the stove up through a hot-air chamber, I', in rear of the iire-pot, up to and connects with a hot-air chamber, J, which is provided with a detlectiug-plate, J', supported therein by arms J2, connected to the sides of the chamber J. From this chamber J three hot-air fines, K K' K2, lead out through the top of the stove into the room and conduct the heated air into the room.
(No model.)
The smoke-flue L connects with the basechamber or ash-pan receptacle and leads up outside lof the stove-casing, and is connected by a short pipe or flue, M, with the stovecasing near its upper end. That portion of the stove-casing which surrounds the fire-pot is constructed of lattice-work N, so that the heat from the tire-pot may be radiated directly into the room through said lattice-work.
A castiron transverse plate, B2, surmounts the base-section ot' the stove and supports the upper portion of' the stove. The draft is up through the lire-pot from below, down th rough the top grating to the ash-pan receptacle, and out through the smoke-Hue.
By the central dumpingsgrate the exhausted coals may be dumped into the ash-pau without permitting the sound coal to escape, and the grate may be shaken to cause the descent ofthe ashes in the same manner as in grates of the ordinary construction.
The cold air enters at the bottom of the stove, becomes highly heated before passing to the heater, near the top ofthe stove, and in this condition is discharged into the room through the hot-air pipes near :the top of the stove-casing.
The front ofthe ash-pau section is provided with the usual sliding damper for regulating the draft.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent of the United States, irs- The combination, with a stove, of the charnber J, arranged therein above the fire-box, and having a deector, J', the cold-air pipe leading from beneath the stove through the tirebox to the chamber J, and the hot-air pipes leading from the top of the` said chamber through the stovebody, substantially as specifled.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. TAYLOR.
Witnesses:
W. J. DARROW, G. A. HARRIS.
