PLOW.
EEPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 335,917, dated February 9, 1886-.
Application filed September 12, 1885. Serial No. 176,924. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY M. GODFREY, of Joneshurg, in the county of Montgomery and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in NewLand Plows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my plow, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in new-land orjumping plows; and it consistsin features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
My plow is providedwith a metal beam, A, that curves around and under the mold-board B and share 0 from the rear, making a presentation at the point of connection nearly parallel with the line of draft. This is a feature of great advantage, readily appreciated by those who have held plows amidst roots and rocks. WVhen a plow strikes with force, as it frequently does in such situations, the position of both beam and share is such as to the best enable them to bear the strain, and consequently also much easier on the man that holdsthe plow. I also provide a peculiarshaped colter or cutter, D, which angles back from its point of attachment to the beam above, so that it partly rides the root it strikes, giving it a forward cutting motion, and eventucurve of the beam to the cutter, very materially aiding and stiffening the latter in the severe work in has to perform.
F F are braces that extend from the curve of the beam to the handles above.
G is a curved bolt that connects the handles and the last-mentioned braces.
I claim as my invention- The new-land plow consisting of a metal beam, A, mold-board and share under which the beam curves, a cutter, D, angling back from its point of attachment to the beam to the point of the share, handles, braces F, bolted to the beam and supporting the handles thereon, bolt G, bracing the handles, and a brace, E, extending forward from the curve of the beam to the central portion of the cutter, substantially as shown and described.
' HENRY M. GODFREY. 1n presence of- BENJAMIN A. KNIGHT, Geo. H. KNIGHT.
