EDVARD G. DAY, OF RIVERSIDE, CONNECTICUT.
LEMON HOLDER AND SQUEEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 335,343, dated February 2, 1886.
Application filed October 6, 1885. Serial No. 179,161. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDW'ARD G. DAY, of Riverside, county of Fairfield, Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Lemon Holder and Squeezer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a squeezer designed especially for table use for holding and squeezing lemons and other substances.
My invention consists of the special construction ofthesqueezer formed of alternatelyintersecting rings attached to opposite pivoted handles, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming partofthis specification, in which similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts in all the figures. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new lemon holder and squeezer as it appears when closed to receive the lemon or other-substance. Fig. 2 is similar view showing the method of using the holder and squeezer, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the squeezer closed. Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the parts in position for squeezing the lemon, and Fig. 5 is a broken front elevation of the squeezer closed.
The jaws or cup portion of the squeezer are composed oftwo series of rings, a I), attached, respectively and alternately, to the handles A B, so that the two sets of ringsintermesh with each other, and are adapted to slide closely together one above the other, to form, when closed, a chamber or cup, C, to receive the lemon, said rings to be carried outwardly by closing the handles for causing the opposite series of rings to compress the lemon or other substance. I
The handles A B are provided at their outer ends with the finger-loops c, for convenience in using the squeezer, and are pivoted together by the pin (1, so that they may be opened and closed, like the handles to a pair of pinchers. The bottom ring of the series I) is closed with the bottom plate, 6, which has an aperture, e,
formed in it for the escape of the juice. The inner edges of the rings a a and b b are rounded, as shown at f, Fig. 5, so that when brought in opposition to each other to squeeze thelemon they will not cut but will compress the lemon and effectively express the juice from it, which will flow in asmallstream from the aperture e.
By constructing the squeezeras shown the squeezer may be supplied with a part of a lemon and placed upon thetable ready for use without danger of soiling the table-linen, and the lemon may be conveniently squeezed by simply closing the handles A B, thus avoiding the necessity of taking the lemon in the fingers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As anew article of manuiacture, asqueezer composed of pivoted handles A B and opposing compressors, the faces or squeezingsurfaces of which are in opposite curves and arranged to close past each other and to form the receptacle C, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination of the handles A B, pivoted together, and a series of rings, a 1), secured to each handle and arranged to close together one above the other, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination of the pivoted handles A B and a series of rings attached alternately to the said handles, the lower ring being provided with an apertured. bottom plate, substantially as described.
4. The combination of the pivoted handles A B and the rings a b, secured alternately to the said handles and having theirinner edges rounded, as atf, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
EDVARD G. DAY.
