NITED STATES ATENT FFICE...
RUEL RAXVSON, OF IVARSAl/V, INDIANA.
IM PROVEM EN T IN SAW-SETS.
To aZZ whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that], RUEL RAwsoN, of Warsaw, in the county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvementin W'renches and' Saw-Sets Combined; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Practical mechanics often experience the want of a wrench which will seize a nut in a corner or narrow place and then turn without obstruction; and the object of my invention is to furnish an improved Wrench for such purpose. I
My invention consists in a peculiar construction of wrench as a new article of manufacture and in combination therewith a sawset.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my wrench and saw-set combined. Fig. 2 is a view of the edge of the wrench, showing the width of the beak orjaw. The arms A of my wrench are made rather slender, the drawings showing the full size. The two arms are hinged together and finished off so as to form a convenient handle.
These Thebeaks or jaws are closed by means of the right and left hand screw B, which is turned by a thumb-piece C, so as to grasp a nut or other object very firmly. I
WVhen desired, the saw-set E F may be attached to the wrench and held in place by the thumb-screw D upon one end of the screw B, the jaws of the Wench being first nearly closed. The slide F of the wrench is adjustable, being fixed at pleasure by means of the thumb-screw nut G.
I am aware thata right and left hand screw is not new and that various forms of Vises are hinged together in a manner somewhat similar to my wrench; but I believe that every practical mechanic would regard my wrench as new and a substantial improvement over all other wrenches in use or known prior to my invention.
The size of my wrench may be varied without departing from my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The above-described wrench and saw-set when combined as a new article of manufacture, substantially as set forth.
RUEL RAWSON. Witnesses:
WALTER SCOTT, E. S. BLACKFORD.
