(Cl. 212-31) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to an improved hoisting crane intended to lift and support an article in different positions and at diiferent distance relates to the pole of the crane. The beam is mounted pivotally on the pole and has two hingedly interconnected sections the outer section comprising a cylinder in which a piston is axially slidable and the piston rod having at its outer end a plurality of pulleys for a hoisting rope running in a corresponding number of pulleys at the outer end of the outer section, so that actuation of the piston produces a lifting or lowering of a load suspended at the end of the rope.
This invention relates to hoisting cranes of the kind in which the crane beam consists of two sections, viz. one outer and one inner section of which the outer crane beam section is journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis at the outer end of the inner crane beam which is journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis on a crane post. The invention is characterised in that a cylinder is disposed in the outer crane beam section in the longitudinal direction of said section, a piston being axially slidable in said cylinder and the piston rod of said piston presenting at its outer end a plurality of pulleys for a rope or wire provided with hoisting means, said rope or the like running in a corresponding number of pulleys mounted at the outer end of the outer crane beam section. A hoisting device of this kind is easy to manufacture and consequently economical. It is easy to operate. It is primarily intended for use in workshops, quite particularly in motor workshops, to lift and support the motor of a vehicle at the repair thereof. It can, however, also be used for loading and unloading, and due to the crane beam being foldable it is possible to arrange the load at different distances corresponding to the distance of the crane beam from the crane post, even close to said post. The device is intended to be operated by compressed air but hydraulic operation may be used as well.

The tubular support 1 of the hoisting device has a base 2 intended to support the crane on a firm bedding 3 or on a vehicle. The crane beam 4 comprises two sections, one outer crane beam section 5 and one inner crane beam section 6 arranged closer to the post 1. These two beam sections are hingedly connected to one another by means of a vertical axis 7. The inner crane beam section projects from a sleeve 8 journalled about a vertical axis at the upper end of the post 1. The axis 7 passes through bearing ears 9 at the outer end of the inner crane beam section 6 and also through bearing ears 10 at the inner end of the outer crane beam section 5. The two crane beam sections 5, 6 are of approximately the same length so that upon movement of the beam section 5 about half a revolution (as is shown in broken lines in FIGURE 2) the outer end of the outer beam section 5 will occupy a position closely adjacent the post 1. A shoulder 12 at the outer end of the inner crane beam section 6 or at the inner end of the outer beam section 5 prevents the latter section from being swung open as far a to bring the two beam sections 5 and 6 in aligned relationship with one another. This out-ofalignement relationship (as shown in unbroken lines in FIGURE 2) facilitates the swinging movement of the arm section 5 along the circular path 11 when pulling force is applied to the outer end of the beam section 5 by means of a rope or the like from the bedding 3.
A cylinder 13 is introduced into the outer crane beam section 5. In this cylinder 13, a piston 14 is axially slidable, the piston rod 15 of said piston passing through a packing 16 in one end wall 17 of the cylinder 13. Through two parallel distance rods 18, 19, spaced somewhat apart, the end wall 17 is connected to an end portion 20 being attached to an end flange 22 at the outer end of the crane beam section 5 by means of studs 21. One of the rods 18 has a channel 23 passing through it, the said channel extending from a nipple 24 at the outside of the end portion 20 into the interior of the cylinder 13. The nipple 24 is arranged to be connected to an adjustment valve operated conduit attached to a source of compressed air (not shown). The 'outer end of the piston rod has a head 25 presenting two rope pulleys 27 which are pivotally mounted about an axis 26. Two similar rope pulleys 29 are journalled at the end portion 22 about an axis 28. In the pulleys 27, 29 run a rope 31 having its one end attached to the end portion 20, for example at 30, and passing through the space between the end wall 17 and the end portion 20 of the beam section 5 and ending in a lifting hook 33 at its opposite end, the said rope 31 being arranged to travel through a number of holes 34 in the end portion 20. 7
By means of a pull rope 36 or the like, having a handle 35 and being attached to the outer end of the crane beam section 5, this latter beam section can be pivoted about the axis on the crane beam 4.
When the piston occupies the position shown in FIG- URES 3 and 4, the rope 31 is almost completely retracted in the crane beam section 5 and the load (not shown) attached to the hook 33 is in itslifted position. After the crane beam 4 having been swung around the post 1 and, if needed, the outer crane bea-m section 5 having been swung into the required angle position (for example as is shown in broken lines in FIGURE 2) by pulling the rope '36, air is evacuated from the cylinder 13 by opening an air outlet valve, whereupon the piston 14 is pulled outwards (to the left on the drawings) due Efthe traction of the load weight, forcing the pulley-s 27 to move towards the pulleys 28, the load being thus lowered onto the bedding 3. When from an outer. position of the piston 14, while a considerable length of the rope 31 is outside the outer end of the crane beam section 5 and the load consequently can be attached to the hook 33 at a considerable distance from the post 1, air is being pressed into the cylinder 13 through the channel 23, the piston 14 is displaced inwards (to the right on the drawings) and the load is hauled in and hoisted towards the crane beam 4.
By loosening the studs 21 it is possible to lift out of the crane beam section the entire unit comprising the end portion 20, the distance rods 18, 19 and the cylinder 13 and their components for overhaul and repair, if needed. Re-mounting of the unit in the crane beam section 5 is just as easy.
According to the described embodiment of the invention the outer crane beam section 5 can be swung in one direction only, as is shown in FIGURE 2. According to another embodiment of the invention, on the other hand, illustrated in FIGURES 6-9, the connection between the outer crane beam section 5 and the inner crane beam section -6 is modified so as to permit the outer beam section, upon completion of half a revolution about its longitudinal axis, to be swung in the opposite direction. This will be described in detail in the following.
The outer end of the inner crane beam section 6 is provided with an end portion 37 having two pairs of bearing ears 38, 39 and 40, 41, one pair at each side of the 1ongitudinal axis of the beam section 6. The bearing ears 38 and 39 as well as 40 and 41 are spaced an equal distance apart in vertical direction. For insertion bet-ween each pair of bearing ears, for example between the one indicated by 38 and 39 (FIGURES 6, 8 and 9), a vertical hub 42 is arranged at one side of the longitudinal axis of the outer crane beam section 5, said hub 42 having roll bearings 43 at its ends. Through the bearing ears 38, 39 and also through the roll bearings 43, passes vertically a bearing stud 44, one end of which presents a washer 45 through which extends a screw 46 engaging with the ear 39 and maintaining the bearing stud 44 in position of insertion. The outer crane beam section 5 can now be pivoted in a horizontal plane about the bearing stud 44 (as illustrated by unbroken lines in FIG- URE 6). Limitation of the pivoting movement, so that the crane section 5 is prevented from occupying a position corresponding to the outer extension of the longitudinal axis of the inner crane section 6, is brought about by a stop pin 47 which is screwed into an end portion 48 of the inner end of the outer beam section 5. The free end of the pin 47 engages the end portion 37 of the inner beam section 6.
To swing the outer beam section 5 in the opposite direction the screw 46 is loosened and the bearing stud 44 removed. The outer beam section 5 is turned half a revolution about its longitudinal axis and the hub 42 is inserted into the space between the bearing ears 40, 41, the bearing stud 44 being then inserted so as to pass through these ears and the roll bearings 43 of the hub 42 and fastened by the screw 46 which is inserted in a threaded hole 49 in the bearing ear 41. Also in this case the pin 47 acts as a stop for limiting the swinging movement of the outer beam section 5, although in the opposite direction (as indicated in broken lines in FIGURE 6).
The invention has been described in the aforegoing for purposes of illustration only and is not intended to be limited by this description or otherwise except as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In an improved hoisting crane, a crane post and a crane beam, said crane beam comprising an outer beam section and an inner beam section, said outer crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis at the outer end of the inner crane beam section, the inner crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis on the crane post, a cylinder disposed in the outer crane beam section in the longitudinal direction of said section, a piston axially slidable in said cylinder, a piston rod of said piston presenting at its outer end a plurality of pulleys for a rope or the like, said rope provided with hoisting means and running over a corresponding number of pulleys mounted at the outer end of the outer crane beam section, an end portion at the outer end of said outer crane beam section on which end portion said outer pulleys are mounted, distance rods connecting said end portion to the end of said cylinder, at least one of said distance bars having a passage channel for feeding compressed fluid to the interior of said cylinder.
2. In an improved hoisting crane, a crane post and a crane beam, said crane beam comprising an outer beam section and an inner beam section, said outer crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis at the outer end of the inner crane beam section, the inner crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis on the crane post and presenting at its outer end two pairs of bearing ears, one pair at each side of the longitudinal axis of said beam section, a bearing stud passing through one of said pairs of bearing ears at a time, a vertically extending hub mounted at the inner end of the outer crane beam section at one side of the longitudinal axis of said beam section, the said bearing stud passing through said vertically extending hub, a cylinder disposed in the outer crane beam section in the longitudinal direction of said section, a piston axially slidable in said cylinder, a piston rod of said piston presenting at its outer end a plurality of pulleys for a rope or the like, said rope provided with hoisting means and running over a corresponding number of pulleys mounted at the outer end of the outer crane beam section.
3. In a improved hoisting crane, a crane post and a crane beam, said crane beam comprising an outer beam section and an inner beam section, said outer crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a ver tical axis at the outer end of the inner crane beam section, the inner crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis on the crane post and presenting at its outer end two pairs of bearing ears, one pair at each side of the longitudinal axis of said beam section, a bearing stud passing through one of said two pairs of bearing ears at a time a vertically extending hub mounted at the inner end of the outer crane beam section at one side of the longitudinal axis of said beam section, the said bearing stud passing through said vertically extending hub, a washer at one of the ends of said bearing stud, a fastening screw passing through said washer to maintain the stud at the inner beam section in the position in which said stud passes through one of said two pairs of bearing ears, a cylinder disposed in the outer crane beam section in the longitudinal direction of said section, a piston axially slidable in said cylinder, a piston rod of said piston presenting at its outer end a plurality of pulleys for a rope or the like, said rope provided with hoisting means and running over a corresponding number of pulleys mounted at the outer end of the outer crane section.

In an improved hoisting crane, a crane post and a crane beam, said crane beam comprising an outer beam section and an inner beam section, said outer crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis at the outer end of the inner crane beam section, the inner crane beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis on the crane post and presenting at its outer end two pairs of bearing ears, one pair at each side of the longitudinal axis of said beam section, a bearing stud passing through one of said two pairs of bearing ears at a time, a vertically extending hub mounted at the inner end of the outer crane beam section at one side of the longitudinal axis of said beam section, the said bearing stud passing through said vertically extending hub, an abutment pin at the inner end of the outer crane beam section, projecting longitudinally with respect to said beam section to limit the pivotal movement of said beam section in one direction, a cylinder disposed in the outer crane beam section in the 1ongitudinal direction of said section, a piston axially slidable in said cylinder, a piston rod of said piston presenting at its outer end a plurality of pulleys for a rope or the like, said rope provided with hoisting means and running over a corresponding number of pulleys mounted at the outer end of the outer crane beam section.

In an improved hoisting crane, a crane post and a crane beam, said crane beam comprising an inner crane beam section and an outer beam section journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis at the outer end of said inner crane beam section, said inner crane beam section being journalled with its inner end about a vertical axis on said crane post and having at its outer end two pairs of bearing ears, one pair at each side of the longitudinal axis of said inner beam section, a bearing stud passing through one of said pairs of bearing ears at a time, a vertically extending hub mounted at the inner end of said outer crane beam section at one side of the longitudinal axis of said inner beam section, said bearing stud passing through said vertically extending hub, an abutment pin at the inner end of said outer crane beam section projecting longitudinally with respect to said outer beam section to limit the pivotal movement of said outer beam section in one direction, a cylinder disposed in said outer crane beam section in the longitudinal direction of said section, a piston axially slidable in said cylinder, a piston rod on said piston having at its outer end a plurality of pulleys, a corresponding number of pulleys mounted at the outer end of said outer crane beam section and a rope having hoisting means running over said pulleys.
6. An improved hoisting frame as set forth in claim 1 wherein said end portion, said distance rods and said cylinder together with said piston, piston rod and said pulleys is removably mounted on said outer beam section.

IN AN IMPROVED HOISTING CRANE, A CRANE POST AND A CRANE BEAM, SAID CRANE BEAM COMPRISING AN OUTER BEAM SECTION AND AN INNER BEAM SECTION, SAID OUTER CRANE BEAM SECTION JOURNALLED WITH ITS INNER END ABOUT A VERTICAL AXIS AT THE OUTER END OF THE INNER CRANE BEAM SECTION, THE INNER CRANE BEAM SECTION JOURNALLED WITH ITS INNER END ABOUT A VERTICAL AXIS ON THE CRANE POST, A CYLINDER DISPOSED IN THE OUTER CRANE BEAM SECTION IN THE LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION OF SAID SECTION, A PISTON AXIALLY SLIDABLE IN SAID CYLINDER, A PISTON ROD OF SAID PISTON PRESENTING AT ITS OUTER END A PLURALITY OF PULLEYS FOR A ROPE OR THE
