Description

Sept. 19, 1967 L. w. VAN DUSEN HANGER FOR CLIP-ON NECKTIES INVENTOR.
Fla 3 [Al/RE/YCf l L VA/V DusE/v m 6 w 7. 5 M A\\\ A w G United States Patent 3,342,345 HANGER FOR CLIP-0N NECKTIES Laurence W. Van Dusen, Escondido, Calif., assignor to Mission Industries, Escondido, Calif., a corporation of California Filed Dec. 20, 1965, Ser. No. 515,014 2 Claims. (Cl. 211--119) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tie hanger which suports a series of clip-on neckties by their knotted ends in stacked relation between an upwardly open pair of rods in such a manner that any neckties of the stack may be withdrawn without disturbing the others.
This invention relates to hangers for clip-on neckties; that is, to hangers for pretied neckties which have oppositely extending yieldable wings which fit under the tabs of a collar. Included in the objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a hanger for clip-on neckties which incorporates a frame formed of four vertical rods so related that the wings of a clip-on tie may extend between opposite pairs of rods with the bow held between so that each tie may be withdrawn by pulling on the tie, causing the wings to fold inwardly and slip from between the rods; thereby providing a tie hanger wherein a plurality of ties may be stacked vertically, yet a selected tie may be readily withdrawn from the stack without disturbing the other ties.
Second, to provide a tie hanger for clip-on ties, wherein two mounting frames may be suspended from a common hook and support two stacks of ties in a compact space.
Third, to provide a tie hanger for clip-on ties which, while particularly adapted for ties having yieldable laterally extending wings, is also adapted for pre-tied ties, wherein the tie knot has yieldable upwardly and laterally directed corners.
With the above and other objects in view as may appear hereinafter, reference is directed to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of the hanger for clip-on neckties indicating fragmentarily several neckties in position thereon.
FIGURE 2 is a front view of the hanger, showing fragmentarily, a necktie in position thereon.
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken from 3-3 of FIGURE 2, also showing a necktie in position on the hanger.
The hanger for clip-on neckties is formed from a pair of rods 1. Each rod is folded at a central point, as indicated by 2 and the two halves are folded intermediate their ends, as indicated by 3 so that each rod is in the form of an elongated W, forming a pair of central rod sections 4 and a pair of outer rod sections 5.
The two rods 1 are joined together at their central folds 2 by means of a mounting disk 6, the rods being welded or otherwise secured to opposite sides of the disk. A hook member 7 is provided having a stem 8 which is rotatably received in the disk 6 between stop lugs 9 formed on the stem and a nut 10 screwed to the end of the stem. The extremity of the hook member is provided with a tip 11. Similar tips 12 are provided at the upper extremity of the outer rod sections 5.
3,342,345 Patented Sept. 19, 1967 As viewed in plan or in the sectional view in FIGURE 3, each pair of central rod sections 4 and outer rod sections 5, define the corners of a rectangular frame 13. The lateral sides of each frame define lateral slots 14, whereas the front or outwardly directed side of each frame forms a forward slot 15. The upper ends of the slots 14 and 15 are open.
The hanger for clip-0n neckties is adapted to receive a clip-on tie 16 which is provided with a preformed knot 17. Secured to the back side of the knot is a hook 18 which fits within the forward side of the collar of the shirt. Extending upwardly and laterally from the preformed knot are yieldable side wings 19.
An alternative. conventional form of clip-on tie is essentially the same as the type illustrated except that the extended side wings 19 are omitted and a larger hook is employed. In this case, the upwardly and laterally extending extremities of the knot form yieldable portions.
Operation of the hanger for clip-0n neckties is as follows:
Each frame 13 is dimensioned so that a clip-on tie 16, whether provided with the side wings 19 or merely flexible laterally and upwardly extending tip, may be received in the upper end thereof so that the side wings 19 or the upper flexible extremities extend into the lateral slots 14 and the preformed knot extends forwardly so that the remainder of the tie hangs downwardly therefrom.
The neckties may be stacked, one on the other, as suggested in FIGURE 1, until the entire frame is filled with ties. When it is desired to remove a tie, it is merely necessary to pull forward and downward on the selected tie, causing the side wings 19 or the flexible tips of the tie to deflect toward each other, permitting the withdrawal of the tie through the forward slot 15. This is accomplished without disturbing the other ties. When the removed tie is replaced, it is inserted onto the top of the frame 13.
While a particular embodiment of this invention has been shown and described, it is not intended to limit the same to the details of the construction set forth, but instead, the invention embraces such changes, modifications and equivalents of the various parts and their relationships as come within the purview of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A hanger for clip-on ties having a pre-tied knot essentially triangular in front aspect with upwardly diverging yieldable portions, said hanger comprising:
(a) a frame defining a pair of vertically extending lateral slots and a front slot of greater width than the lateral slots;
(b) and vertical guide bars forming a part of said frame separating said lateral and front slots;
(c) said frame being open at its upper end to receive in said front slot the pre-tied knot of a clip-on tie and to receive in said lateral slots the upwardly diverging yieldable portions of a tie for forward withdrawal of a tie through said forward slot.
2. A hanger for clip-on ties having a pre-tied knot essentially triangular in front aspect with upwardly diverging yieldable portions, said hanger comprising:
(a) a pair of bars folded to form an elongated W having vertical legs;
(b) means securing said bars at their mid-portions to dispose said bars in parallel relation;
