T. LYONS.
. MEAT OUTTBR; 1.-
No. 334,123. Patented Jan. 12, 1886.
1 'NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS LYONS, OF NEWV BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE BUS- SELL & ERWIN MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
MEAT-CUTTER.
5PECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,123, dated January 12, 1886.
Application filed September 8, 1885. Serial No. 176,530. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS LYONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Cutters,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of meatcutters which have a spirally-flanged cylinder acting against a stationary knife within a spirally-ribbed case.
The objects of my invention are, first, to so construct the machine that the stationary knife may be easily and cheaply set and adjusted within the case, and, second, to set the knife at such an angle to the cylinder as to produce a better cutting action.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my meat-cutter, the same being illustrated with the case or shell open, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of said machine on line .00 0c of Fig.1.
The general form of the shell or case A B and the cylinder C is old and well known, and the particular form thereof, as herein shown, is the invention of another party, excepting that portion of the shell within which the knife D is secured. At one side of the lower half, B, of the shell I form a laterally-projecting wing, a,
said wing slanting downwardly a little from the case, as shown in Fig. 2. In the upper side of the wing at I form a recess or socket to receive the knife D. At the outer edge of this wing I form lugs b b, to receive adjustingscrews 0, the ends of which abut against the lower and outer edge of the knife-blade D. The upper half, A, of the case is provided with a wing, d, which is parallel to the wing a, and which, when the two halves of the case are clamped together in the ordinary manner, bears upon the upper side of the knife D, and holds it within its recess. By this construction the knife is very easily set in place and adjusted, while at the same time it is made to stand more nearly on a radial line to the cylinder than heretofore, whereby its cutting action is believed to be more efficient.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the spirally-ribbed cylinder, the case A B, having wings at its meeting edges, and the knife D, held between said wings, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
THOMAS LYoNs.
