UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS D. KLABER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
STENCIL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent N0. 333,864 dated January 5, 1886. Application filed June 19, 1885. Serial No. 169,234. (ModeL) T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS D. KLABER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Paper- Holding Frame for Stencil-Printing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved frame for holding a sheet of paper while stenciling the same by means of a special instrument and while the impressions are being made.
The invention consists in the combination, with a board, of a frame hinged on the same, and of aclampingframe on the hinged frame, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawingsforming part of this specification,in which similar letters of reference indicate cor responding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved paper-holding frame for stencil-printing with top frame removed. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under side of the top frame. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the entire device on the line mm, Fig. 1.
The base-board A is provided with a raised part, A, on the top of which a metal plate, 13, is secured. On the laterallyprojecting part A of the board a frame, 0, is hinged, which is of such size that it can surround the raised part A. The four pieces forming the frame G each have a rib, D, on the upper surface, the said ribs being parallel with the sides of the base, and the said frame is provided with upwardly-projecting flanges E, along the inner edges. A frame, F, fitting outside of the flanges E, is placed upon the frame 0, and is provided in its under surface with grooves G, for receiving the ribs D. Springscatches H or other devices are secured on the outer edges of the frame 0, for the purpose of holding the frame F on the frame 0. The top surface of the frame F is slightly below the top edges of the flanges E and the top of the metal plate B.
The operation is as follows: The frame F is removed and a sheet of prepared paper is laid over the metal plate B and the top of the flanges E and the frame 0. The frame F is placed on the frame Oand pressed down, whereby the tongues D are forced into the grooves G,whereby the paper is forced into the grooves G,and the frames 0 F areheld together by the catches. and the sheet is stretched and held firmly. The desired characters are drawn on the sheet, the same resting on the plate B, with an instrument which perforates the paper and forms a stencil-plate. The frames 0 F are then swung up. The sheet for receiving the impressions is placed on the plate B and the frames are swung down, the apertured sheet being on the sheet for receiving the impression. An inked roller is then rolled over the stencil-plate, and the ink passes through the apertures in the stencil-sheet and upon the sheet below it. As the plate B and the top of the flanges E, which are all covered by the paper, are above the top of the frame F, the ink on the roller cannot soil the frame F.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' l. The combination, with a board, A, of the frame 6, hinged on the same, and of a clamping-frame on the frame 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with the board A, of the frame 0, provided with the flanges E on the inner edge and hinged on the board A, and of the clamping-frame F on the frame 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination, with the board A, of the frame 0, hinged on the same, and having tongues D, and of the clamping-frame F, having grooves G, for receiving the tongues D, substantially as herein shown and described.
4. Thecombination, with the board A, of the hinged frame 0, the clamping-frame F on the same, and of catches for locking the frames 0 and F together, substantially as herein shown and described.
5. The combination, with the board A, of the flanged frame 0, hinged on the board, the top of the flange being flush with the top of the board A, and of the clamping-frame F, the top of which is slightly below the top edge of the flange, substantially as herein shown and described.
AUGUSTUS D. KLABER.
