Background of the invention The invention relates to a creel, and comprises risers carrying thread package supports with a support shank.
Such creels are generally known in the art an-d a representative example has been .given in the U.S. patent speciiication 1,660,299. The thread packages which are used nowadays in creels can nave various sizes. For example, long and relatively thin bobbins and or cones are being used, and cones which are relatively short, but have a large diameter. It is clear that the thread pack-age diameter determines the number of thread package supports which can be accommodated in a creel of given size. In order t-o obtain a certain standardization in the manufacture of creels, the risers with the attached thread package supports are so mounted on beams of the creel structure, that they can be adjusted horizontally.
If a creel is intended to accommodate certain bobbins, the support shank of the thread package supports is adapted to these bobbins and the creel is assembled correspondingly.
Summary of the invention The invention aims at providing a creel, the ythread package supports of which are suitable for accommodating bobbins of widely different sizes. v
It is a feature ofthe invention that the thread package supports comprise a clamp in which a pin for the support shank tits and can be rotated and axially shifted, which pin can be locked in the clamp.
In that way, the pin for the support shank can be adjusted in conformity with the size of a given type of thread package.
A convenient arrangement is obtained according to the invention in that the pin which can be locked in the clamp is provided at a lateral distance from the support shank and is parallel to the suppo-rt shank.
By turning the pin, the support shank position can be adapted accurately to the thread package diameter, Whilst by shifting the pin an adaptation to the thread package length is possible.

FIGURE 1 is a side elevation of a riser on which a thread package support with a support shank according to the invention is mounted.

FIGURE 3 is a rear elevation of the riser shown in FIGURE l with double thread package supports with support Shanks.
FIGURE 4 is a diagrammatical rear elevation of a part of -a creel, from which the position of the risers for various types of thread packages appears, which thread packages are all arranged on thread package supports with the same type of support Shanks.
Description of the preferred embodiment A riser 1 of a creel carries consoles-2 carrying two swing arms 3 and 4, The swing arms 3 and 4 are pivotally axed to the console 2 at 5 and 6 respectively. The ends of the swing arms 3 and 4 are connected to an arm 9 at 7 and 8 respectively, the arm carrying a support plate 10` provided with a centre aperture. A bolt, the head 11 of which is provided with a transverse bore, ts in the aperture of the support plate 110. The bolt has a threaded shank, onto which a nut 12 can be screwed. The bolt head 11 ts in a sleeve 13 which can be rotated on the support plate 10. The sleeve 13 is provided with a seat 14 for a pin 15 which passes through the bore in the head 11 of the bolt. If the nut 12 is tightened, the pin is drawn towards the seat 14 of the sleeve 13 by the head of the bolt and the sleeve 13 is drawn tightly against the support plate 10. After the nut 12 has been tightened, the pin 15 can consequently no longer alter its position. The pin 15 is provided with a bent part 16,
which extends into another bent part 17. The part 17 serves as support shank for a thread package. The support shank 17 and the part 16 and the pin 15 are therefore formed from a single lrod which has been bent to the shape of a U. By means of the pa-rt 16, the thread package support can be Withdrawn from the creel, upon which the swing arms 3 and 4 pivot around the points S and 6 respectively, the support shank 17 initially moving backwards an-d subsequently moving downwards to a vertical position.
In FIGURE 1, the extreme positions of the support shankl1'7 upon shifting the pin 15 have been shown in dashed lines. The sizes of a lon-g bobbin and a cone respectively have been shown in dashes and dots.
If it is intended to use two adjacent support Shanks 17 for coupling the threads, so that after a thread package has been emptied, the end of the thread of this package is connected to the start of the thread of an adjacent thread package, the support shank position can be changed horizontally. This possibility has been indicated in FIG- URE 2.
Dependent upon the diameter of the thread packages to be used, the risers 1 of the creel will be positioned close to one another for coils with small diameter and will be relatively widely spaced for co-ils with large dia-me-ter. By this measure, the number .of creels is kept at a minimum which is especially important if warping beams comprising a large number of threads are to be warped. `In modern looms, warping beams of 1200 and 1400 threads are used, whilst even warping beams with 180i() threads occur. It is clear that due to this large number of threads, the creel can have substantial dimensions. For adaptation to the thread package diameter, the pin 15 is turned in the head 11 of the bolt. After the support shank 17 has been positioned correctly, the nut 12 is again tightened. In FIGURE 3, the eXtreme positions of the support shank have been shown in dashed lines.
Notwithstanding the relatively small adjusting range in comparison to the diameter of the thread package, it appears from FIGURE 4 that by virtue of this small adjusting range, substantial variations of the mutual spacings of the risers 1 can be obtained. In FIGURE 4, the riser spacing S has been shown for use with thread packages of small diameter on the support shank 17. By turning the pin 1S in the head 11 of the bolt, a riser spacing of 1.5S `is obtained. The horizontal distance B1 which is taken up by four thread packages of large diameter, is consequently substantially larger than the horizontal distance B2 which is taken up by four thread packages of small diameter.
By virtue of the simple mounting of the support shank 17 by means of a pin 15, a large number of variations in the sizes of creels or, keeping the overall size unchanged, of the number of thread packages to be accommodated in the creel, can be obtained according to the invention, without necessitating complicated measures.
What I claim is:
1. A creel comprising risers having retractable supports mounted thereon, whe-rein the improvement cornprises a releasable clamp carried by each support, a pin held in the clamp which is both rotatably and axially adjustable in the clamp when the clamp is released, and which is substantially horizontal when the support is in its normal position, land a shank carried by the pin for supporting a thread package, which extends parallel to and is spaced from the pin.
2. A creel according to claim 1 wherein the pin and shank are the two legs of a rod bent in the form of a U.
3. A creel according to claim 1 wherein the clamp comprises a seat for the pin which is adjust-able about a vertical axis when the clamp is released.

1. A CREEL COMPRISING RISERS HAVING RETRACTABLE SUPPORTS MOUNTED THEREON, WHEREIN THE IMPROVEMENT COMPRISES A RELEASABLE CLAMP CARRIED BY EACH SUPPORT, A PIN HELD IN THE CLAMP WHICH IS BOTH ROTATABLE AND AXIALLY ADJUSTABLE IN THE CLAMP WHEN THE CLAMP IS RELEASED, AND WHICH IS SUBSTANTIALLY HORIZONTAL WHEN THE SUPPORT IS IN
