(Cl. ass-i) This invention relates to a container, and more particularly to a container suitable for storing and carrying elongated articles such as archery arrows and the like.
In providing a container for storing and carrying archery arrows, it is desirable to provide a container which will hold a large number of arrows and prevent them from shifting around and colliding with each other, resulting in damage to the arrows. Furthermore, it has been found desirable to provide such a container, which will retain the arrows in rigid alignment, thus preventing them from becoming warped.
Accordingly, it is the general object of this invention to provide a container for storing and carrying elongated articles.
Another object of this invention is to provide a novel container suitable for storing and carrying archery arrows.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novel container for storing and carrying elongated articles such as archery arrows, which shifting and colliding with damage.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a novel container for storing and carrying a large number of elongated objects which are held out of contact with each other.
Another object of this invention is to provide a novel container for storing and carrying elongated articles such as archery arrows, which is suitable to hold them in positions to prevent warping.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novel container for storing and carrying elongated articles, which provides easy access to the articles.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a novel container for storing and carrying elongated articles, which permits the articles to be easily removed.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel storing and carrying container for elongated objects, which is easy to assemble and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent to those persons skilled in the art, from the following description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIGURE 3 is an enlarged end View of the embodiment illustrated in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 4--4 in FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the embodiment completely opened; and
FIGURE 6 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a bracket member provided in the embodiment.
Briefly described, the present invention provides a container for elongated articles generally comprising a wall member disposable to form an enclosure, support means mounted on the wall member, extending inwardly when the wall member is disposed to form the enclosure, the support means having notches for receiving the elongated articles and the support means having means for retaining the elongated articles in the notches.

The end wall sections have converging sides defining sectors of a circle With each of the converging sides of the end wall sections being engageable with converging sides of adjacent wall sections. The side wall sections each have mounted thereon, transversely spaced bracket members, which extend inwardly when the side wall sections are disposed to form the enclosure. The bracket members are provided with converging sides defining sectors of a circle with the converging sides of each bracket member being engageable with converging sides of adjacent bracket members. In addition, the converging sides of transversely spaced bracket members are provided with aligned notches for receiving the elongated articles and each of the notches has a liner of yieldable material for gripping and retaining the elongated articles in the notches.
Referring to the drawings, there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention. This embodiment is illustrated in perspective in FIGURE 1. The embodiment includes a plurality of end wall sections 10, consisting of elongated angular-1y related panel portions 11 and 12. In the embodiment illustrated, the side Wall sections 10 are hingedly connected together by means of transversely spaced hinges 13 and 14, to provide a container having an octagonal cross-section When the side wall sections are disposed to form an enclosure, as illustrated in FIGURE 1. The end wall sections are retained in the enclosure disposition by means of transversely spaced latch assemblies 15 and 16. In addition, the container is provided with a handle member 1'7.
As best shown in FIGURES 3 and 5, the container has a plurality of end wall sections 13, having converging side edges 19 and 20 which are disposed normal to the panel sections ill and 112. When the enclosure is formed with the side Wall panels 10 as illustrated in FIGURE 1, the end wall sections 18 project inwardly and define segments of a circle to close the ends of the enclosure.
Mounted on the interior side of each side wall section is a pair of transversely spaced bracket members 21 and 22. These bracket members have substantially the same configuration as the end wall sections and also are spaced from them. Each bracket member 21 has converging side edges 23 and 24 which are disposed normal to the panel portions 11 and 12 of side wall section It]. Similarly, bracket member 22 has converging side edges 25 and 26 which are disposed normal to the panel portions 10 and ill and are in alignment with the converging side edges illustrated in FIGURE 4.
The converging side edges of each pair of transversely spaced bracket members 21 and 22 are provided with a plurality of aligned notches 27. Each set of aligned notches 27 is adapted to receive an arrow A, as shown in FIGURES 2 and 4. Referring to FIGURE 6, each of the is provided with a yield-able material liner to grip and retain the arrow firmly within the aligned set of notches. It will be appreciated that the liner material in the aligned set of notches retains the arrow in a rigid position, to prevent the arrow from becoming warped.
When storing and carrying the arrows, the side wall sections It are rolled or folded to provide the enclosure,
s shown in FIGURE 1. The side wall sections are mainained in the enclosure disposition by the latch assemvlies 15 and 16. When it is desired to obtain access to L limited number of arrows, the latch assemblies are dis- :ngaged and the assembled side wall sections are opened 0 the position as illustrated in FIGURE 4. This provides iccess to the arrows inserted in the notches formed in iligned side edges 29, 30, 31 and 32. When access to additional arrows is desired, the outermost units are piv- )ted outwardly successively, and eventually the entire container is opened to the position as illustrated in FIG- URE 5, to provide access to the remaining arrows carried by the bracket members.
It will be seen that with the arrows held in position in sets of aligned notches, the arrows are prevented from shifting and colliding with each other inside the enclosure, which would result in damage to the arrows. Furthermore, it will be appreciated that the arrows will be prevented from becoming warped.
The various components of the container, including the side wall sections, the end wall sections and the bracket members, can be constructed of any suitable material. Furthermore, the configuration of any of the components can vary, the only limitation being that any such configuration should permit the components to be disposed to form an enclosure in the manner as illustrated in connection with the described embodiment.
From the foregoing detailed description it will be evident that there are a number of changes, adaptations and modifications of the present invention which come within the province of those skilled in the art. However, it is intended that all such variations not departing from the spirit of the invention be considered as within the sco e thereof as limited solely by the appended claims.
What I claim is:
I. A container for elongated articles comprising a wall member disposable to form an enclosure, said wall member having transversely spaced bracket members mounted thereon, extending inwardly when said wall member is disposed to form said enclosure, each of said bracket members having converging edges engageable with the edges of adjacent brackets when said wall member is disposed to form said enclosure, the converging edges of transversely spaced bracket members having aligned notches for receiving said elongated articles and said bracket members having means for retaining said elongated articles in said notches.
2. A container for elongated articles comprising a wall member disposable to form an enclosure, said wall memher having transversely spaced bracket members mounted thereon extending inwardly when said wall member is disposed to form said enclosure, said bracket members having converging sides defining sectors of a circle, each of said converging sides being engageable with the converging side of an adjacent bracket member, the converging sides of transversely spaced bracket members having aligned notches for receiving said elongated articles and said bracket members having means for retaining said elongated articles in said notches.

A container for elongated articles comprising a side wall section disposable to form an enclosure, said side Wall member having end wall sections extending inwardly when said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure, to close the ends of said enclosure, said side wall sections having transversely spaced bracket members mounted thereon extending inwardly when said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure,
said bracket members having converging sides defining sectors of a circle, each of said converging sides being engageable with the converging side of an adjacent bracket member, the converging sides of the transversely spaced brackets having aligned notches for receiving said elongated articles and each of said notches having a yieldable liner material for gripping and retaining said elongated articles in said notches.
4. A container for elongated articles comprising a plurality of side wall sections hingedly connected together and disposable to form an enclosure, said side wall sections having transversely spaced bracket members mounted thereon, extending inwardly when said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure, each of said bracket members having converging edges engageable with the edges of adjacent brackets when said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure, the converging edges of transversely spaced bracket members having aligned notches for receiving said elongated articles and said bracket members having means for retaining said elongated articles in said notches.

A container for elongated articles comprising a plurality of side wall sections hingedly connected together and disposable to form an enclosure, said side wall sections having transversely spaced bracket members mounted thereon extending inwardly When said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure, said bracket members having converging sides defining sectors of a circle, each of said converging sides being engageable with the converging side of an adjacent bracket member, the converging sides of transversely spaced brackets having aligned notches for receiving said elongated articles and said bracket members having means for retaining said elongated articles in said notches.

A container for elongated articles comprising a plurality of rigid side wall sections hingedly connected together and disposable to form an enclosure, latch means for retaining said side wall sections in the enclosure disposition, said side wall sections having rigid end wall sections extending inwardly when said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure, said end Wall sections having converging sides defining sectors of a circle, each of said converging sides of said end wall sections being engageable with the converging side of an adjacent end wall section, said side wall sections each having transversely spaced bracket members mounted thereon, extending inwardly when said side wall sections are disposed to form said enclosure, said bracket members having converging sides defining sectors of a circle, each of said converging sides of said bracket members being engageable with the converging side of an adjacent bracket member, the converging sides of transversely spaced bracket members having aligned notches for receiving said elongated articles and each of said notches having a liner of yieldable material for gripping and retaining said elongated articles in said notches.

- 6. A CONTAINER FOR ELONGATED ARTICLES COMPRISING A PLURALITY OF RIGID SIDE WALL SECTIONS HINGEDLY CONNECTED TOGETHER AND DISPOSABLE TO FORM AN ENCLOSURE, LATCH MEANS FOR RETAINING SAID SIDE WALL SECTIONS IN THE ENCLOSURE DISPOSITION, SAID SIDE WALL SECTIONS HAVING RIGID END WALL SECTIONS EXTENDING INWARDLY WHEN SAID SIDE WALL SECTIONS ARE DISPOSED TO FORM AND ENCLOSURE, SAID END WALL SECTIONS HAVING CONVERGING SIDES DEFINING SECTORS OF A CIRCLE, EACH OF SAID CONVERGING SIDES OF SAID END WALL SECTIONS BEING ENGAGEABLE WITH THE CONVERGING SIDE OF AN ADJACENT END WALL SECTION, SAID SIDE WALL SECTIONS EACH HAVING TRANSVERSELY SPACED BRACKET MEMBERS MOUNTED THEREON, EXTENDING INWARDLY WHEN SAID SIDE WALL SECTIONS ARE DISPOSED TO FORM SAID ENCLOSURE, SAID BRACKET MEMBERS HAVING CONVERGING SIDES DEFINING SECTORS OF A CIRCLE, EACH OF SAID CONVERGING SIDES OF SAID BRACKET MEMBERS BEING ENGAGEABLE WITH THE CONVERGING SIDE OF AN ADJACENT BRACKET MEMBER, THE CONVERGING SIDES OF TRANSVERSELY SPACED BRACKET MEMBERS HAVING ALIGNED NOTCHES FOR RECEIVING SAID ELONGATED ARTICLES AND EACH OF SAID NOTCHES HAVING A LINER OF YIELDABLE MATERIAL FOR GRIPPING AND RETAINING SAID ELONGATED ARTICLES IN SAID NOTCHES.
