EGG TIMER.
No. 333,350. Patented Dec. 29, 1885.

N. PETERS. Plwwumo n he UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. SILVER, OF NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO J NO. H. ERNST, OF BROOKLYN, N. Y.
EGG-TIMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,350, dated December 29, 1885. Application filed May 29, 1885. Serial No. 167,086. (No model.)
I To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SILVER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Timer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a sand-glass eg timer; and the invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line 00 0c of Fig. 1.
A represents a sand glass support, which may be made of card-board or other suitable material, and in the present instance is shown as provided with loops a, by which it may be hung upon the wall of a room, but in lieu of loops the support may be provided with a pedestal by which to stand the article upon a table. At or about the center of the support is pivoted, by an eyelet or pivot, c, a curved spring, B,which terminates with eyes I) b, one at each end, for receiving the points dd of the sand-glass O. The chambers or tubes fg of the sand-glass C may be graduated, as shown at c c, Fig. l, to indicate minutes and halfminutes, and the series of figures of the graduation-marks are reversed with reference to each other, so that when the sand-glass is reversed, either by turning it with the spring B upon the pivot c, or by turning the support A end for end, the graduations will read properly in ascending series. The support Ais also graduated, as shown at h h and t i, to indicate minutes and half-minutes, and it is also marked with the words soft boiled, medium cooked, well done, and hard boiled, and the graduations are reversely numbered and worded, as shown, so that when the support is reversed the figures and words will read properly as with the sand-glass O. The spring B, being pivoted to the support A, enables the sand-glass G to be easily reversed without disturbing the support A, and the spring B serves also to form a spring-holder for the glass 0, so that it is not liable to be broken by any ordinary usage.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a graduated support and sand-glass, of a spring attached to the support and holding the glass, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a support and sandglass, of a curved spring pivoted to said support, and having its ends engaging the sandglass to hold the same, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with a support and a sand-glass having lugs or points projecting from its ends, of a spring pivoted to said support, and having eyes in its ends to receive the said lugs or points, substantially as herein shown and described.
4. As an improved article of manufacture, an egg-timer consisting of the graduated support A, having loops a, the spring B, pivoted to said support and having the eyes I), and the sand-glass 0, having lugs or points d, as set forth.
