Description

SPORT SHOE Filed March 28, 1966 INVENTOR .Z'Z/je 77 Era/2 .97%
The present invention relates to a sport shoe and more particularly to an inside-track shoe which is provided with a sole consisting of a plastic material, preferably nylon, which is designed for securing spikes or the like thereto.
Similar sport shoes of this type which were known prior to this invention were provided with six spikes within the front part of the sole, and the supporting plates of these spikes were preferably embedded within the plastic sole during the molding thereof. Especially for inside-track shoes it was previously regarded as necessary to provide the front part of the sole with at least six spikes so as to provide the sole which has otherwise a very smooth surface with a sufficient grip traction. Since the weight of a sport shoe is determined to a considerable extent by the number of spikes which are secured to the outer sole and since such shoes should be made of the lowest possible weight, it would be of advantage if it was possible to reduce the number of spikes.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a sport shoe and more particularly an inside-track shoe which may be made of a considerably lighter weight than similar shoes as previously made by providing the lower surface of the sole with a sufficient traction so as to permit the number of spikes to be reduced. This object is attained according to the invention by providing the lower side of the plastic sole with a rough coating, preferably of crepe rubber or the like, and by making this coating of such a thickness that the tips of the spikes still project from the coating. This rough coating provides the outer sole with such a grip traction that the front part of the sole does not require more than four spikes. These four spikes are provided within the toe and ball areas of the sole and they are preferably arranged so that each pair of spikes is disposed within a line which extends substantially parallel to the ball connecting line.
The features and advantages of the invention will thecome more clearly apparent from the following description which is to be read with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which 3,324,578 Patented June 13, 1967 FIGURE 1 shows a top view of a half sole according to the invention which is intended for the front part of a sport shoe; while FIGURE 2 shows a cross section which is taken along the line II-II of FIGURE 1.
As illustrated in the drawings, the plastic sole 1 which may consist, for example, of nylon is substantially cupshaped and the supporting plates 3 of the spikes 2 together with the adjacent parts of the latter are embedded within the sole 1. The lower side of sole 1 is provided with a rough coating 4-, preferably of crepe rubber or the like, from which the tips of the spikes 2 project for a short distance. The sole as illustrated in FIGURE 1 is only provided with four spikes within the front part thereof which are distributed over the toe and ball areas of the sole so that each pair of spikes is disposed within a line which extends substantially parallel to the ball connecting line.
Although my invention has been illustrated and described with reference to the preferred embodiment thereof, I wish to have it understood that it is in no way limited to the details of such embodiment but is capable of numerous modifications within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully disclosed my invention, what I claim 1. A sport shoe having a sole consisting of a plastic inner member, a plurality of individual spikes embedded in said sole in spaced relation, each of said spikes having a generally fiat upper portion and a downwardly extending shaft portion, said sole surrounding the fiat portion of said spikes, and a rough traction coating secured to the lower side of said sole and having such a thickness that the tips of the shaft portion of each said spikes projects downwardly from said coating.
2. A sport shoe as defined in claim 1, in which said rough coating consists of crepe rubber.
3. A sport shoe as defined in claim 1, in which said spikes are embedded in said plastic sole when the latter is molded.
