BRANDlNG-IRON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,300, dated December 15, 1885.
Application filed May 23. 1884. Serial No.132,600. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST STOLLsTORFF, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Branding-Irons,of which the following is a specification, reference be ing had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Myinvention relates to an improved branding-iron for use in branding names, marks, &e., upon boxes, casks, and similar articles.
The object of the invention is to obtain a branding-iron which will be simple in construction and durable. and which may be employed in stamping different names or marks, and to the accomplishment of the above the invention consists of the novel devices and combination of devices, as will be described and claimed. Reference will be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of an iron constructed according to the invention, and Fig. 2 aview of the tongs employed in handling the same.
Like letters refer to like parts in each view.
In this invention it is designed to form the stamping or marking letters or characters upon two or more sides of the brand, and to provide it with suitable recesses for the reception of the liftingtongs shown.
In the drawings, A represents the brand, which, as herein shown, is formed in the shape of a segment of a circle, with suitable branding-letters formed upon both its front and rear face.
It will be understood that other forms of irons or brands may be used, and when the shape permits the letters or characters may be formed on more than two faces.
, The brand is provided with suit-able recesses, a, into which the ends of tongs B are inserted, for placing it in the fire or for removing it therefrom. By this construction of the brand one may be provided with letters for forming several different names or trademarks, and the brands are found to be more convenient in handling and more durable in use.
WVhat I claim is- Branding-iron A, provided with brandingletters on its top and bottom faces, and with sockets a in its side faces, as and for the purpose set forth.
