I 4Specification forming. part of Letters Patent No. 33,200, datedSeptember 3, 18,61.
the accompanying drawing, making part ofl `this specification, and being an axial section of myV improved nozzle.
The object of .this invention is to enable the opera-tor to readily replace a nozzle-tip with Vanother of differentsize while the engine is 1nA full play without being wetted and without Wasting wat-er; and the invention consists in the use of a swiveledhead constructed with two necks upon either of which a tip may be secured and afterward turned to receive and discharge the stream of water.
Tolenable others skilled inthe art to make and use my inveutionlI will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
' A represents a portion of thehose.
B is the .nozzle formed with a cylindrical end b, upon which tits a swiveled head C, provided with two necks c and c. i
D and E represent tips with discharge-a pertures of'ditferent sizes. The swiveled head is permitted toturn on its axis to the extent of ninety degrees by a slot c2 corresponding in width with the diameter of the nozzle B. Any number of tips D E may be employed, l
and each is threaded to fit corresponding threads on either of the necks c and c.
The operation is as follows: If the tip D be in use and it is desired to apply a smaller tip E, the latter is applied to the neck c Whilein the position shown. By turning the head to the left the newly-applied tip is then brought into position to receive Y and discharge the stream o f Water, andthe tipDmayberemoved. It' it be again desired to use atip ofaditterent size, the latter is secured to the neck c and afterward brought into play by turning thehead to the right. It will thus be seen that water is entirely cnt otl'v from either neck to or from which it may be desired to secure or detach a tip. The operator may thus with little trouble be provided with tips adapted to throw streams ot a great variety of capaci- 4tics and may apply the same readily and with Vno inconvenience.
`What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The swiveled head C, provided with separate necks c and c and adapted in the manner explained to exclude Water from either neck at which it is desired to apply or detach a tip.
'lhe above speciticationof my improved swivel-nozzle for lire-engines, tite., signed this 27th day of July, 1861.
