meoeoe Specification of Letters :atcut.
Application filed April 22, 1914. Serial No. 833,700.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN M. HEIN- sex, a citizen of the United States residing at Fresno, in the county of Fresno, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to oil burners. The Oh}. oft theinrention resides in the prov sion co -oil burner which embodies improved cohstruction for finely dividing the oil ja'hd mixing same thoroughly with a suitable quantity of steam previous to the 'passa,,e of the oil to the burner tip.
A llrirther object of the invention resides in' the provision of an oil burner so constructed and arranged that oil can be delivered to the burner by gravity alone, thus eliminating the use of a pump for supplying oil to the burner.
A'still further object of the invention resides in the provision of an oil burner to which oil is delivered by gravity and which embodies an improved construction for pre venting back pressure on the oil so delivered.
W'ith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to, be hereinafter more fully described. and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail refer ones will be to the accompanying draw ings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of an oil burner constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2', a vertical section of What is shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of F l; and Fig. 4-, a perspective View of the wheel employed in the burner.
Referringto the drawings the burner is shown as comprising a tubular body portion 10 which is thr aded at one end for the reception of a burner tip as at 11. The body portion 10 is enlarged intermediate its ends to form a fan chamber 12, the bore of the body 10 communicating with said fan chamber at the upper end of the latter. chamber 12 opens through one side, of the body 10 and is closed through the medium of a cap 13 threaded in the body, said cap having a central opening li provided with threads 15. Secured to the inner side of the cap 13 is a bridge bearing 16 extending transversely of the opening 14:. Rotatably mounted in the bearing 16 and in the opposite side of the body 10 is a shaft 17 upon The 1 which is fixed a fan A. This fan includes :3
a hub portion 18 and a plurality of radial blades 19, the outer ends of said bladesbeing v of the body 10 at the end thereof remote from the end which carries the burner tip is a stream supply pipe 22 provided with a nozzle 23 positioned to discharge against the blades 19 at the top of the chamber 12.
In the operation of the burner steam is turned into the pipe 22 from whence it passes through the nozzle 23 against the. blades 19. At the same time oil is delivered into the chamber 12 from the pipe 21 at the center of the fan Wheel A. This oil is heated and partly vaporized by the steam and the rotation of the fan wheel will break up the oil and thoroughly mix same with the steam so as to produce a highly co bustible mixtiire for delivery to the burner tip.
What is claimed-is An oil burner comprising a tubular body having an enlarged portion forming a fan Wheel chamber interrupting the bore of the body, a steam pipe mounted in one end of the bore of the body, a fan wheel rotatably inounted in said chamber and including blades against which the steam pipe discharges, said blades being provided respeo axis of the fan and opening through the sides of the blades, and an oil pipe delivering into said chamber at right angles to the bore ofthe body and in line with the axis of the 'ian' and on the side of the fan through which the cutaway portions of the blades open.
