Be it known that I, HERMAN voN Ron, a citizen of Germany, residing at Stuttgart, \Viirtcmberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refrigerators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a novel construction of refrigerators, of which the following is a full and clear description.
My invention consists of a receptacle provided with an ice-receiver on the top thereof, and having a conduit leading therefrom to a water-channel formed on the upper part of the main body thereof, the whole inclosing a second receptacle in which the fruits, vegetables, or provisions are placed. Leading from the interior of this outer receptacle is a hollow elbow, which I term the air-conduit. This air-conduit passes through the walls of the receptacles, and then up through the bottom of the water-channel formed by the annular projection on the upper portion of the main body of the outer receptacle. Both receptacles are covered by the cover hinged to a flange of the water-channel. This cover is mounted with suitable fabric, the lower edges of which, where the cover is closed, reach nearly to the bottom of the water-channel. The cover is also provided with a projecting ring, through which passes a hollow tube adapted to cover the vertical portion of the air-conduit when the cover is closed. The lower portion of this hollow tube is provided with a projecting rim, while the upper por tion is provided with a bellshaped cup or bundle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a. vertical section of my refrigerator, in which the main features are shown. Figs. 2 and 3 are detached detail views thereof.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the drawings, in whicha represents the outer receptacle, which is provided with the ice-receiver h, beneath the top thereof. i is the conduit or trough leading from said ice-receiver h to the fabric covering the roof or cover, or to the water-ehannel 0,
which is formed. by an annular projection near the upper rim of both the receptacles a and second receptacle, a.
The cover I) is hinged natural gravity when the cover to the flange b of the water-channel 0. Said cover b is provided with a projecting ring, 0 through which passes the hollow tube 6, which covers the vertical projection of the air-conduit The lower end of the hollow tube 6 is provided with a projecting rim, 0, adapted to prevent the same from falling through the ring 6 when the cover is opened, as shown in Fig. l. The upper end of the hollow tube 6" is provided with the bellshapetl handle or cap .9, the weight of which enables the hollow tube 0 to descend by its is closed.
g is the fabric adapted to absorb the cool! water from the water-channel O and carry it over the cover I), thus causing all vapors, warm or cold, to condense when striking against the cover I), and reconvcying it to the water-channel G, thus keeping the atmosphere surrounding the ioereceiver cool, whereby the ice contained therein is made to dissolve slowly.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a refrigerator, the combination consisting of a receptacle provided with an ice receiver beneath the top thereof, and having a conduit leading from its base to a waterchannel formed near the upper rim of the receptacle, said water-channel forming the upper port-ion of an inclosed receptacle, the airconduit leading from the interior of the ineloscd receptacle to and through the base of the water-channel, the ainconduit provided with a corresponding cover supported by suitable means, and the cover of the receptacle mounted with suitable fabric adapted to absorb the water from the water-channel.
2. In a refrigerator, the combination consisting of the receptacle a, cover b, flange 1),
projecting ring 6", hollow tube 6, air conduit f, handle 0, projecting rim 6*, and fabric 9, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto sign my name, in the presence of two subscribing wit nesses, this 21st day of May, 1885.
