Hansel, The Hague, Netherlands, assignor to Hunter Douglas International Ltd, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, a corporation of the Province of Quebec.
Filed Apr. 22, 1965, Ser. No. 450,063 Claims priority, application Netherlands, Apr. 23, 1964, 6,464,452 2 Claims. (Cl. 160177) The invention relates to a tilting roll for a Venetian blind to which the top ends of a ladder tape or string tape are attached.
During raising or lowering of Venetian blinds, the pull cords running in the head rail generally slide over the tapes and due to the abrasive action caused by the sliding the pull cords will in the long run out the tapes.
An object of the invention is to eliminate this disadvantage and to provide a tilting roll for a Venetian blind for attachment of the top ends of a ladder tape or string tape, in which the tilting roll is provided along parts of its circumference with protruding portions. defining on either side of said roll a space in which parts of the ladder tape or string tape are located.
With metal tilting rolls these protruding portions are formed by ribs pressed into the sheet metal body of the tilting roll from the inside and in a radial direction. In this case it will be sufiicient if the height of the ribs or of the portions protruding above the sheet metal surface of the tilting roll in a radial direction is at least equal to the thickness of the ladder tape or string tape, to avoid cutting of the tapes as mentioned before.
The invention will be further described, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a perspective view of :a tilting roll for Venetian blinds.
The tilting roll 1 is formed with oblong tongues 2 and 3, for attachment of the ladder tape 4 which has been diagrammatically indicated in the drawing by chain dotted line. The pull cords 5 also shown in chain dotted line are guided across the tapes 4 by means of the raised ribs 6 and 7 provided in the sheet metal surface 8 of the tilting roll 1 without touching the tape 4. This will preclude that in the long run cutting of the tape 4, due to the abrasive action of the pull cords 5, occurs. To avoid cutting of the ladder tape or string tape the height of the ribs or of the portions 6 and 7 protruding above the sheet metal surface 8 of the tilting roll in a radial direction is at least equal to the thickness of the ladder tape or string tape -4.
As is evident from the drawing, the disclosed tilting roll includes end walls 9 each of which provides recess 10 for mounting the device non-rotatably upon the tilt rod which is commonly found in Venetian blinds. It is also seen in the drawing that side walls 8 are outwardly curved, that is convex.
I claim:
1. A tilting device for a Venetian blind, said device comprising a substantially U-shaped longitudinal frame having an upper wall, convex side walls, and end walls, said end walls being provided with recesses adapted for mounting the device non-rotatably on a tilt rod, the upper wall having means for fastening the top end of a ladder means which is intended for supporting the slats of the blind from said upper wall, the side walls being provided with protruding spacer portions having a height which is at least equal to the thickness of the material of the ladder means and defining on either side of said device a channel along which parts of the ladder means may extend.
2. A tilting device for a Venetian blind, said device comprising a substantially U-shaped longitudinal frame having an upper wall, outwardly bent side walls, and end walls, said end walls being provided with recess adapted for mounting the device non-rotata-bly on a tilt rod, the upper wall having means for fastening the top end of a ladder means which is intended for supporting the slats of the blind from said upper wall, the side walls being provided with protruding portions having a height which is at least equal to the thickness of the material of the ladder and defining on either side of said device a channel along which parts of the ladder may extend, the tilting device consisting of sheet metal, the protruding portions being formed by ribs pressed into said side walls from the inside to the outside and extending in radial direction.
