THREAD'GUIDE AND TENSION-REGULATOR FOR LOOM'SHUTTLES.
SPECEFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No.'3 30,544, dated November 17, 1885.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE BALDWIN, of Willimantic, in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented anew and Improved Thread-Guide and TensionRegulator for Loom-Shuttles of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for guiding the thread and regulating the tension of the same in loom-shuttles.
The invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts and details fully set forth and described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of one end of ashuttle provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same, the spindle, cop of yarn thereon,and the fastening-screws of the guiding and tension-regulating device being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail perspective views of the parts of the thread-guiding and tension-regulating device.
The shuttle-body A is provided with the thread delivery or exit eye F, in the usualmanner. A metal strip, C, has a bend, D, and has the end above thebend flared outward in opposite directions, and provided with an aperture, E, from which a slit, F, extends to the end of the strip. In the bend D one or more apertures, G,are formed. Near that end of the strip opposite the one provided with the aperture E a longitudinal slot, H, is formed. The strip 0 is placed in a recess, J, in the bottom of the shuttle-body, and is held in place by a screw, K, passed through the slot H, the widened end of the strip projecting up into the slot I of the shuttle-body. The strip C can be adjusted a greater or less distance from the eye E of the shuttle-body A. A metal plate, L, has a forked top end, L,and below it alongitudinal slot, M, through which a screw, N, is passed and screwed into one of the apertures G. The thread from the spindle P is passed between the prongs of the fork L, through the slit F, and through the eye E. By adjusting the plate L in such a manner that the bottom of its recess is a greater or less distance above the bottom of the aperture E the tension is increased more or less. The fork L and the aperture E guide the thread.
The above-described device can be applied on any loom shuttle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the shuttle-body A, of strip C, having the aperture E and the slit F at one end and the slot H at the other end of the screw K, and the forked plate L, held on the strip C, substantially as herein shown and described.
