Description

- Jan. 17, 1967 M. AMBRUCH CIGAR 0R CIGARETTE HOLDER WITH ADAPTOR Filed Feb.
INVENT OR. 41/0/45; flMazz/m BY W ATTORNEYS.
United States Patent 3,298,379 CIGAR 0R CIGARETTE HOLDER WITH ADAPTOR Michael Ambruch, 84 Coxeville, Beaver Meadows, Pa. 18216 Filed Feb. 3, 1965, Ser. No. 430,043 1 Claim. (Cl. 131-179) The present invention relates to an adaptor for cigarette holders, and has as one of its primary objects the provision of a device which may be used in association with conventional cigarette holders to enable a cigar to be held thereby, and which further device permits the admission of air to the smokers mouth so as to provide a cooler smoke from the cigar.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a relatively short air vented cigarette holder and a cigar holder that can be secured to the cigarette holder to permit it to be utilized wit-h cigars.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a cigar device which permits atmospheric air to be passed to the smokers mouth to provide a cooler smoke, without requiring any valves and the like used heretofore in admitting air to the smokers mouth.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a cigar holder having an air vent extending angularly and longitudinally from a tubular body and from the front end thereof toward the rear thereof, so as to provide an air passage which allows the free flow of atmospheric air therethrough at all times..
Still other objects reside in the combination of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and 'disclosed in the accompanying drawing wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of the inventive concept.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view embodying the present invention and shown partly in section.
FIGURE 2 is a plan view of the cigarette holder and adaptor shown in FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 33 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 4 is a sectional view taken along the line 44 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 5 is a view taken along the line 5-5 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 6 is a sectional view taken along the line 6-6 of FIGURE 1.
Referring to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 generally designates a cigarette holder having a stem 11 with a bore 12 extending therethrough. The front end of the stem 11 is provided with an enlarged tapered bore 14 and has disposed therein a cigarette adaptor 16.
The adaptor is similar to that disclosed in my co-pending application Serial Number 391,236, filed August 21, 1964. The adaptor 16 comprises a tubular body having a side wall 18, as best seen in FIGURE 1, with the rear interior being provided with an annular flange 23 having a relatively large central opening 24 therein. The inner configuration defines a slightly stepped socket 25, which is dimensioned to receive the end of a cigarette against the shoulder of the stepped portion 26 provided in the socket 25, and slightly constrict the same to provide a tight fit.
The outer end of the adaptor is provided with an annular outwardly extending flange 27, which is dimensioned to fit over the rim or lip of the open front end of the holder 10, and which is provided with spaced grooves 28 extending longitudinally thereof. The grooves 28 are cut in the interior surface of the socket 25 and forwardly of the shoulder 26 and communicate with openings 29 extending through the adaptor. The openings 29 in turn communicate with longitudinal grooves 30 which are cut in the exterior surface of the adaptor and communicate with the large bore 14. Thus when a cigarette is inserted in the adaptor, and the cigarette is lit air will be drawn into the bore 14 and the passage 12 through the groove 28, openings 29, and grooves 30. Thus the addition of the atmospheric air will provide a cooler smoke.
In accordance with the present invention a cigar holder 32 is provided for attachment to the cigarette holder 10, and the cigar holder 32 will in no way interfere with the cigarette adaptor 16. The cigar holder 32 comprises a relatively thick elongated tubular member or body 34 having its rearward end adapted to be press fitted over the exterior wall of the enlarged bore 14 of the cigarette holder. The cigar holder 32 is provided with a reduced front end section 36 so as to provide a flange portion 38 of less diameter than the portion 34. The portion 32 has an air passage 40 extending angularly and longitudinally from the portion 38 and opening with the atmosphere at this point, wit-h its interior end or grooved end or opposite end opening into the interior bore 42 of the cigar holder and communicating with the interior of the cigarette holder adaptor and the passage 12.
With the structure of the present invention the cigar is inserted through the bore 42 of the cigar holder 32 and has its tip end inserted into the flange or turned out rim 27 of the adaptor for the cigarette. When the cigar is lit and inhaled, the smoke will pass to the smokers mouth through the cigar and also additional atmospheric air will be drawn in through the passage 40 and around the unlit end of the cigar and into adaptor interior grooves 28,
socket 25 (which becomes a mixing chamber), through large central opening 24, and into the passage 12 in order to provide a mixture of atmospheric air with the air drawn through the cigar proper. Thus the present invention provides a means of simultaneously drawing air and smoke through the device in order to give cooler smoke and a less irritating smoke to the user.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the present invention provides a cigar holder adaptor that can be utilized by itself, or it can be secured to a conventional cigarette holder, or it can also be utilized with a conventional cigarette holder that is provided with a cigarette adaptor as described in the above-mentioned copending application.
The present invention also provides an economical and simple device that can be press fitted or force fitted into the open end of a cigarette holder of any desired type and which can be readily cleaned by merely detaching it from the cigarette holder and inserting a pipe cleaner through the openings 40 in the cigar holder.
It thus provides a smoker with a simple adaptor that can be carried by the person in case he wishes to use it at one time as a cigar holder and at another time with his conventional cigarette holder so as to provide fresh clean air from the atmosphere with the normal air drawn through the cigarette or cigar being smoked, to provide a cooler smoke and a less irritating effect on the smokers mouth.
As many embodiments may be made of this invention, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinabove shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
What is claimed is:
In combination with a cigarette holder having a stern, a mouthpiece, and an open enlarged front end, a cigarette adaptor in said open end comprising a tubular body with a bore adapted to secure a cigarette, an outwardly extending flange, said body having axial interior and exterior grooves With apertures in communication With said grooves, said exterior grooves communicating with said front end and stem, a cigar holder With a tubular body secured to the exterior of said enlarged front end, said cigar holder having a groove communicating with said cigarette holder interior grooves, said cigar holder groove being angularly disposed with the cigar holder body and having its front end disposed radially outwardly of its other end and communicating with the atmosphere.
