FLEXIBLE COOKING BAG Filed March 4, 1965 INVENTOR Frederic G. fiaraenbraak ATTORNEYS.
United States Patet t 3,289,722 Patented Dec. 6, 1986 3,289,722 FLEXIBLE (BOOKING BAG Frederic G. Hardenbrook, Fallston, Md., assignor to the United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army Filed Mar. 4, 1965, Ser. No. 437,325 1 Claim. (Cl. 150-5) The invention described herein may be manufactured and used by or for the Government for governmental purposes, without the payment to me of any royalty thereon.
During periods of disaster and War it often becomes necessary that people live off the land for prolonged periods of time. The only sources of water may be impure. Leaves, grass, fruits, meats or other food which is available may be unfit for consumption unless cooked or sterilized.
The problem of providing a stock of cooking or Waterpurifying utensils for armies, fallout shelters and such is enormous and the expense is great. Bulk and weight should be minimized.
The present invention, a flexible cooking bag, helps meet the problems.
The single figure illustrates one form of the invention.
The flexible cooking bag must Withstand high temperatures such as those produced by a small outdoor cooking fire. For this purpose, a usable fabric is glass fiber thread. The glass fiber thread is preferably machine knit into cloth and stretched over a male mandrel, seamless, so there will be no surplus fringe material to burn or char. Since there are no seams, heat is transferred evenly through the cloth bag.
After shaping, the glass fiber bag is coated with silicone rubber compound inside, and preferably outside also. The inside coating is chosen so as to be acceptable for food preparation as required or acceptable by the Food and Drug Administration. The glass fiber adds strength While the silicone rubber makes the bag easy to keep clean, sanitary and safe for foods Without contamination. These materials together form a strong flexible cooking bag Which conducts heat readily from the flame or other source of heat to the food being cooked or water being sterilized.
For a survival kit, the components may be packaged inside of the bag until the kit is to be used. Thus, the bag serves the double function of a packaging container which is usable as a cooking container.
1 claim:
A flexible cooking bag comprising a seamless fabric material having a coating which is easy to clean and keep sterile, said fabric material comprising heat-conducting glass fiber and said coating comprising heat-conducting silicone rubber both inside and outside of said glass fiber.
