W. M. HUNT; METHOD OF FORMING PACKAGES OF PAPER BAGS. No. 328,888. Patented Oct. 20, 1885.
(/ZyJ/ (/Zy-Z- WITNESSES: INVENTOR:
JJM) 52$ BY M v A ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. WILLIS M. HUNT, OF GLEN GARDNER, NEW JERSEY.
METHOD OF FORMING PACKAGES OF PAPER BAGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,888, dated October 20, 1885.
Application filed August 4, 188%.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIS M. HUNT, of Glen Gardner, ,in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Method of Forming Packages of Paper Bags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved package of paper bags in which the bags are held together in such a manner that they can be pulled from the package very easily, the package hangs well, occupies very little space, and the bags cannot be displaced.
The invention consists ofthe hereinafter described and claimed method of uniting bags to form a package.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front View of my improved paper-bag package. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same.
A number of paper bags, A, are placed on each other in such a manner that their edges are flush. They are then pressed firmly together and a transverse slit or cut, B, is made in the upper edges of the several bags, in which slit or cut a cord, 0, coated with glue or other adhesive material, is placed, whereby the several bags will adhere to the cord 0 in such a manner that they are held together, but can easily be detached separately or in numbers from the package without ripping the bags. The cord 0 passes out through the Serial No. 139,560. (No model.)
slit or cut in the top, and a loop, D, may or may not be formed by the cord 0 on one side of the package, and by means of the said loop the package can be suspended from a nail or hook projecting from a counter, wall, post, &c.
By means of my improvement the bags can be united very readily to form a package ready to be suspended.
The bagsoan be detached from the package easily and rapidly. The package has a neat appearance, as the edges of all the bags are flush.
No paper chips or scraps fall upon the counter or floor when detaching bags. No bag-holder is required.
The bags come off one by one, as required, and no bags except the one detached comes off.
A cord, ribbon, or wire of any kind, covered with glue, may be used for the purpose described herein.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The herein-described method ofuniting bags to form a package, consisting in providing the bags in corresponding edges with slits, and placing a cord covered with glue or other adhesive material in the slits of the several bags forming the package, substantially as herein shown and described.
WVILLIS M. HUNT.
